On Sunday it was time to leave San Antonio and head to Austin. We stopped at San Marcos Premium Outlets and the adjacent Tanger Outlets San Marcos for some shopping. After a couple of hours of shopping and some lunch, we drove on to Austin.
Rooftop terrace and seafood
Once we arrived in Austin we checked in at Courtyard by Marriott Austin Downtown/Convention Center and got settled. Next, we headed out to a rooftop bar for some refreshments. We enjoyed the views and cocktails at Westin Austin Downtown’s Azul Rooftop Lounge. While there we decided to reserve a table at the nearby Eddie V’s Prime Seafood for dinner. We kicked off dinner with some tuna tartar and for mains, it was scallops and a breaded fried fish fillet. The food was delicious. After dinner, we headed back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.

Texas BBQ
Eventually, we strolled back to the hotel, relaxed for a bit, and got ready for dinner. We ordered an Uber and headed out to an authentic Texas experience – BBQ. The spot we had chosen was Terry Black’s BBQ. The place was busy and we joined the line to order our grub. We chose brisket, a beef rib, an original and a jalapeno cheese sausage. For sides, we picked mac-n-cheese and coleslaw. After we paid, we headed to the terrace to enjoy our meal. It was outstanding. I do get why people rave about Texas BBQ, you could almost call it an art form. With our stomachs filled to the brim, we ubered back to the hotel and lounged around for the rest of the night.
Our first full day in Austin proved a culinary delight and left me anticipating what other delicacies would be in store. Stay tuned for our second day in Austin.
