Things To Do In Myrtle Beach

Hit the Beach

Myrtle Beach is known for its stunning beaches that stretch for miles along the South Carolina coast. The beaches are wide and flat,  perfect for sunbathing, building sandcastles, or taking a relaxing walk along the shore.

Myrtle Beach is one of the busiest beaches in the area and offers a lively atmosphere with plenty of beach activities, including parasailing, jet skiing, and banana boat rides. Some of the beaches, such as Myrtle Beach State Park, are less crowded and offer a more serene and peaceful experience.

Many of the beaches also have amenities like showers, restrooms, and lifeguards for the safety and convenience of beachgoers.

North Myrtle beaches offer a relaxed and uncrowded and relaxed pace which is why we chose to stay here.

Because we stayed at an oceanfront rental home, we were able to pop out for sunset and sunrise each morning, which is my absolute favorite way to enjoy the beach!

With its beautiful scenery and abundance of activities, the beaches in Myrtle Beach are truly a must-see destination for any beach lover.

Find Seashells

Shelling has to be my favorite activity at any beach, but it’s absolutely great here! I’ve been to a place on the Atlantic coast that had so many intact whole shells.  I spent quite a few mornings just walking down the beach and finding sea shells.

Visit Broadway at the Beach

Broadway at the Beach is a popular entertainment and shopping complex located in the heart of Myrtle Beach. This bustling destination features a variety of attractions, including restaurants, bars, live entertainment venues, amusement rides, and shops.

You can grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants, catch a movie at the cinema, or experience the thrill of a zipline ride. The complex also features several specialty stores, including candy shops, jewelry stores, and clothing boutiques.

One of the highlights of Broadway at the Beach is the massive aquarium, which is home to over 10,000 aquatic animals, including sharks, stingrays, and sea turtles.

Go Golfing

Myrtle Beach is known as the “Golf Capital of the World,” with over 100 golf courses. Hit the links at one of the many world-renowned courses like Pine Lakes Country Club, The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, or Tidewater Golf Club.

Golfing is super affordable compared to what we pay back home in Washington DC so definitely pack your clubs or rent a set.

Visit the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

The boardwalk is home to the iconic Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, as well as arcades, shops, and restaurants.

Enjoy All The Water Sports Myrtle Beach as to Offer

Myrtle Beach is a great place for water sports like jet skiing, parasailing, and kayaking. Head to the Myrtle Beach Watersports, Downwind Sails, or Myrtle Beach Parasailing for some fun in the sun.

Shop at Tanger Outlets

This popular shopping destination offers over 100 brand-name stores like Nike, Gap, and Tommy Hilfiger at discounted prices.  If retail is your therapy dupe then definitely spend an afternoon hitting the outlets!

Visit the Myrtle Beach State Park

Myrtle Beach State Park is a beautiful and serene natural retreat in the heart of Myrtle Beach. The park offers over a mile of undeveloped beachfront, a fishing pier, and a nature center that offers educational programs for visitors of all ages.

The park’s trails, including the Sculptured Oak Trail and Yaupon Trail, wind through the maritime forest and offer opportunities to spot wildlife like alligators, deer, and a variety of bird species. There are also picnic areas, playgrounds, and campsites for visitors who want to stay overnight and immerse themselves in the park’s natural beauty.

This State Park is the perfect place for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse themselves in the natural wonders of the South Carolina coast.

Go Fishing

You can definitely find great fishing here! Book a charter or head to one of the piers like Cherry Grove Pier, Apache Pier, or Springmaid Pier for some fishing fun.

Explore Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is a must-visit attraction in Myrtle Beach for nature and art enthusiasts. Located on over 9,000 acres of stunningly beautiful landscape, the gardens feature a variety of themed gardens, walking trails, and a zoo with native animals.

But what makes Brookgreen Gardens truly unique is its impressive collection of American figurative sculptures, including works by renowned artists such as Anna Hyatt Huntington and Gutzon Borglum.

Visitors can also explore the Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve, which showcases the history and culture of the region through exhibits and interactive displays.

If you’ve ever wanted to visit the famous Wormsloe Plantation and the tunnel of oak trees, but were hesitant because of its sordid history steeped in slavery, then Brookgreen Gardens is a great option.

Within Brookgreen Gardens is a tunnel of oak trees festooning with Spanish moss, aptly named Live Oak Allee.” Actually, throughout the entire 9,127-acre property, there are tons of beautiful oak trees covered in Spanish moss!

I’ve never seen so many beautiful trees covered in moss. This is definitely one of the must-sees in Myrtle Beach.

Visit Atalaya Castle

Atalaya Castle is a unique and historic landmark located within Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. The castle was built in the 1930s by the wealthy philanthropist, Archer Huntington, and his wife, the sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington. Atalaya is a Spanish term that means “watchtower,” and the castle’s design was inspired by the Huntingtons’ love of Spanish architecture.

The castle features 30 rooms surrounding a central courtyard, which includes living quarters, an art studio, and a tower that offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Today, the castle serves as a museum and offers tours for visitors to learn more about its unique history and architecture. Atalaya Castle is a beautiful and historic landmark that provides a glimpse into the lives of one of America’s most prominent artistic couples.

Atalaya Castle is just down the street from Brookgreen Gardens so if you are visiting one, you should add the other to the list!

Myrtle Beach has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for outdoor adventures, shopping, or just relaxing on the beach. These ten activities are just a few of the many things to do in this beautiful coastal city. Plan your trip today and make unforgettable memories in Myrtle Beach.
