The Best Family All Inclusive Resort in Cancun Mexico: Dreams Playa Mujeres

I’ve been to Cancun and the Riviera Maya Region 6 or 7 times now, but we have never stayed at an all-inclusive family Resort in Cancun before.

I’ve always stayed at Airbnbs, boutique hotels, and resorts that were not all-inclusive in Mexico because there’s just so much to do in the area and I was barely ever at the hotel.

But this trip was different.  This trip included our three-nager, aka 3-year-old toddler.  This time our trip to Cancun was as a family instead of two carefree singles, two married people, or for a bachelorette party.

The trip to Cancun revolved around having a toddler and looking for a resort that was family-friendly yet still had that luxury feel that we’ve gotten so used to.

Review of Dreams Playa Mujeres All-Inclusive Family Resort in Cancun Mexico

Dreams Resorts in Mexico are all-inclusive luxury family-friendly resorts geared toward family travel, their sister property, Secrets are all-inclusive luxury resorts catering to couples travel.

One of the advantages of Dreams Playa Mujeres Resort in Mexico is that it is right next to a Secrets Resort, and you can go visit for free (keep reading to find out how).

We were attracted to Dreams all-inclusive family resort in Cancun because it has a water park, free kids club, and amazing reviews – CHECK PRICES.

Getting to Dreams Playa De Mujeres Resort All-Inclusive Family Resort in Mexico

Dreams Playa De Mujeres Resort is not in the Cancun Hotel Zone.  This all-inclusive family resort is situated north of the hotel zone in Cancun and is about 40 minutes by car from the Cancun Airport.

We booked round trip private transfers from the Cancun airport to Dreams Playa De Mujeres Resort so we wouldn’t have to deal with the hassle of finding transportation upon arrival – CHECK PRICES.

Even though we booked private transfers we still ended up waiting for about 20 to 30 minutes for our car.  It looks like all the transfer operators from the Cancun airport have a limited number of shuttles that go back and forth, so we had to wait for our turn.

There was a little cart where we waited that sold snacks and cold water in case your kids get hungry or thirsty.

Once we were on the way to Dreams Playa De Mujeres Resort, we could see how much Cancun has changed since our first trip!  Driving past downtown Cancun, it was no longer dark and a bit scary, but full of modern buildings and chain stores!

We quickly headed north into a gated community of resorts where the driver had to check in to enter.  After a few more minutes we arrived at the entrance to the best all-inclusive family resort in Cancun!

The gate person checked our reservation before our car could go onto the resort property.  From all the checkpoints it looks like security is top-notch in this area.

Staying at Dreams Playa De Mujeres All-Inclusive Resort in Cancun

Checking In at Dreams – Family-Friendly All-Inclusive Resort in Cancun

Upon arriving at Dreams we were immediately greeted with champagne for the adults and a juice and cookie for our toddler (already we were seeing the family-friendly touches at this resort in Cancun).  Then we were quickly ushered to a check-in desk, where we verified the room type and room number.

Next, we were greeted by a timeshare salesperson.  So apparently right after you check in one of the salespeople at the resort will try to convince you to go to a presentation, take a tour, and obviously buy a timeshare.  We politely declined and were not pressed further.

Dreams Playa Mujeres in an Ocean View Suite

We stayed at Dreams Playa de Mujeres in an Ocean View Suite on the 5th floor in Building 8.  Our room was HUGE.  Did I say HUGE?  The Ocean View Suite at Dreams Playa Mujeres was definitely a lot bigger than I expected.  The room had a king bed and sitting area with a pull-out couch.

The bathroom had double sinks and a shower that could fit the whole family.  Plus the toilet had its own door!

The balcony was spectacular as well with a bathtub, perfect views of the beach and pool, and a seating area.  Overall I would say the pictures on the resort’s website didn’t do it justice.

One aspect that makes Dreams the best family all-inclusive resort in Cancun is the technology.  Everything could be ordered from the tablet on the desk.  All the information for the day’s activities were on the tablet as well.

And my favorite part was the auto air conditioning, it shuts off when you have the veranda doors open!  One of my biggest pet peeves is having a window open when the air conditioning is running.  I see it was such a huge waste because air conditioning uses so much energy! All-Inclusive Resort for Family of 5

The Ocean View Suite at this all-inclusive family resort is perfect for a family of 5 because it allows for a maximum of 5 people.  This is a huge plus for families with 3 young children, you won’t have to get 2 rooms!

While most family-friendly resorts in Cancun limit the room capacity to 4 people per room, which is a hindrance when you have 3 kids.

Kids Club at Dreams All-Inclusive Family Resort in Cancun (Explorer Club)

One of the major reasons we chose Dreams at Playa de Mujeres Resort was the kids club or Explorer Club.

The Explorer Club was amazing at Dreams Playa de Mujeres and our toddler absolutely loved it.

At this all-inclusive family-friendly resort in Mexico, the Explorer club opens at 10 am and the last pick up is 9:30 pm.  You have to register your child first with his or her passport, but after that, you just have to sign them in at drop off.

Drop your kids off at any time without an appointment.  Though if you drop them off mid hour you may have to go find where the Explore Club activity is at because they don’t always stay in one location.

The Explorer Club at Dreams Playa de Mujeres Resort has its own little pool and indoor playground for the kids to play at.

But they also take the kids around the resort for different activities.  You can also sign your children up for lunch and or dinner service as well.  I saw the Explore club take all the kids to lunch at the buffet restaurant right at noon.

At night the Explorer Club at this family-friendly resort in Cancun will take the kids to shows on the resort and my toddler loved it.  She would ask me each evening, am I going to see a show with my friends?  And the answer was always yes, so the husband and I could go to dinner with our friends!

Teen Club at this All-Inclusive Family Resort All in Cancun

For families with older kids, 13+ there’s an indoor teen club that these kids can go to.  This is basically an arcade and hang out spot for older kids.  There are Xboxes, pool tables, a popcorn machine, and more to entertain your teen!  This provides a great little break from the sun.

Right outside the teen club is a trampoline and a rock climbing wall too!  None of the kids in our group were old enough to go here by themselves but it was fun for the whole family.

Eating at Dreams Playa Mujeres Resort in Mexico

Dreams Playa Mujeres Resort in Mexico has 10 restaurants but we only got to try a few during our stay.  Overall I’d say the food was just okay at Dreams.  We’ve been to other all-inclusive resorts but none geared toward families.  Also, I’m comparing this to our previous experiences in Cancun where we ate out and that food was amazing!  So relatively speaking the food is okay compared to the city but probably pretty good compared to other all-inclusive resorts in Cancun.

World Cafe (Buffet)

This is the buffet restaurant at Dreams and it serves all 3 meals.  This is a casual restaurant but you do need to be clothed, not wearing just your swimsuit here.  World Cafe was probably our favorite option for breakfast and lunch because you don’t need a reservation.

The breakfast is amazing with a huge variety.  For lunch, I loved the fresh ceviche!

Tides (Grill)

When you are in a hurry Tides provides the perfect spot for a quick bite.  Their menu is limited to burgers, fries, nachos and chicken wings.  The chicken wings here were our favorite.  If you are by the pool this is the restaurant you would be ordering from.

Dolce (Cafe)

This is a cute little Cafe serving up ice cream and pastries.  There wasn’t a day we didn’t stop here for a quick ice cream with our toddler after a day of playing in the pool.  Dolce is also the only restaurant at Dreams that is open early.  So if you have a tour leaving in the morning you can stop here for a quick coffee and pastry before you depart!

Going to Secrets from Dreams Resort

Secrets, the adults-only sister resort of Dreams Mujeres happens to be right next door.  This makes Dreams Resort one of the best all-inclusive family resorts in Cancun because you have access to the amenities at both resorts!  One of the reasons we didn’t go to many of the restaurants at Dreams was because we mostly ate dinner at Secrets!

If you have kids you know how nice it is to have some adult-only time!  Staying at Dreams gives you that option.  You can drop your kids off at Explorer then either hop on a golf cart or walk over to Dreams for dinner.  Remember to make a reservation first though!

Dreams is the Best All-Inclusive Family Resort in Cancun Because of the Pools

This all-inclusive family resort in Cancun has 4 pools, 2 main ones that face the ocean, one lazy river that only Preferred Club Members have access to, and the kids pool.

We found the 2 main pools to be more than enough for us!  There’s also a few hot tubs around the main pools that our toddler loved to hang out in.

Water Park at Dreams All-Inclusive Family Resort in Cancun

If you are looking for an all-inclusive family resort in Cancun that has a waterpark for the kids then Dreams is it!

The waterpark at Dreams Resort in Mexico is so much fun!  As an adult I even enjoyed it.  There’s a section for babies and toddlers that’s super shallow and also a deeper section for older kids.  Plus, there are 2 waterslides to entertain your kids.

Activities at Dreams All-Inclusive Family Resort

There is an endless list of activities at Dreams, which is why it’s the best family resort in Cancun with all-inclusive amenities.  I’ll admit right now we didn’t have time for any of the activities.  We fully took advantage of the all-inclusive bar and just relaxed by the pool and beach.  Here’s a list of the activities:

  • On-site waterpark with waterslides, splash buckets and waterjets for all ages
  • Lazy river (exclusively for Preferred Club guests)
  • Explorer’s Club for Kids
  • Core Zone Teen’s Club
  • Beach and pool volleyball
  • Theme nights and beach parties
  • Live musical performances
  • Stage shows
  • Spanish lessons
  • Cooking and cocktail classes including wine and tequila tastings
  • Tennis courts (available for adults 18+ at neighboring Secrets Playa Mujeres)
  • Ping-pong
  • Fitness classes
  • Archery
  • Batting cage
  • Euro-Bungee
  • Beach football
  • Bocce Ball
  • Basketball
  • Water Trampoline
  • Iceberg Float
  • Horse Shoes
  • Putting Green
  • Bubble Soccer
  • Kayaks
  • Hobie cats
  • Water polo
  • Water aerobics
  • Snorkeling

You have access to a list of activities each day from the iPad in your room!

Why This Is The Best Family Resort in Cancun for All Inclusive

There’s a ton we absolutely loved about this family-friendly resort in Cancun!  First, it was so convenient to have access to food 24/7 without having to go anywhere.  Thank you room service!

Second, their kid’s club hours and activities are really second to none in the industry!  We have been planning another trip to Cancun with family and friends, but have yet to find another resort with similar kids club hours.  If you have kids Dreams are definitely the best all-inclusive for kids!!

Third, the ability to accommodate a family of 5 at this all-inclusive resort was also a huge plus.

If you have a family of 5, Dreams is one of the few family-friendly resorts in Cancun that allow 5 people in one room.  In looking for other all-inclusive resort brands in the Riviera Maya, most had a max capacity of 4 before and you would have to get another adjoining room, which greatly adds to the cost.

This became important because friends we were traveling with happened to have 5 in their group, 2 adults, and 3 kids!

A Few Things That Weren’t Great

We were not wowed by the food at Dreams, but this might be because we’ve only eaten outside of resorts in Cancun.  Our toddler, however, loved it!  She asked for chicken wings and ice cream every day.

The rooms were spacious and well-appointed, but not special.  We have stayed at some pretty epic resorts before and this just didn’t stand up against those places.

But again none of those were geared toward families!  For a family-friendly all-inclusive resort, the rooms were really good in terms of meeting our needs and having a touch of luxury.

Would we stay at Dreams All-Inclusive Family Resort again?

Absolutely we would stay at Dreams Resort in Mexico!  We had such an amazing time with our friends and family here that I wouldn’t hesitate to go back in a heartbeat – BOOK YOUR STAY HERE.
