GEOGRAPHY

Also known as Cape Comorin, Kanyakumari is situated in Kanyakumari District in Tamil Nadu.

A very popular tourist destination and also a city since the sangam period.

Kanyakumari covers a total area of 25.89 km square. Their Official Language is Tamil.

The city is at the southern tip and is the southernmost point of indian continent. The City near to it is Thiruvananthapuram. The city hits the highest temperature in between MARCH and MAY and the lowest in between DECEMBER and JANUARY. The best time to visit here is between OCT-MAR.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is one of the popular tourist monuments in Vavathurai. And it was built in honour of Swami Vivekananda in 1970. The monument stands on one of two rocks and legend has it that it was on this rock where Goddess Kumari had performed Austerity.

Kamarajar Mani Mantapa Monument

Kamarajar Mani Mantapa Monument was built and dedicated to a liberty fighter and former Tamil Nadu chief minister, Mr. Kamarajar, president of the Indian National Congress. He is also known among the people as Black Gandhi. Like the Gandhi Mantapa, this is the place where the ashes of Kamarajar are held for the public to pay homage before they reached the sea.

Thiruvalluvar Statue

Thiruvalluvar Statue is one of the most beautiful landmarks in kanyakumari. The Thurivalluvar

Statue stands upon a rock that represents the 38 Chapters of “Virtue” in the Thiruvalluvar.

The statue represents wealth and Pleasure.

The statue has height of 29m. The combined height of both the statue and rock is 40.5m. It weighs 7000 tons. The statue was sculptured by the Indian sculptor Dr. V Ganapati Sthapati. The monument stood uneffected when it was hit by a tsunami on December 2004.

Thirparappu Falls

Thirparappu falls is a man made waterfall and is an ideal place for boating and swimming. Located at a distance of 55 KM from Kanyakumari, this is one of the must go places if you happen to visit the same.
