FY 2021 Diversity Visa (DV-2021) Entry Lottery Program

FY 2021 Diversity Visa (DV-2021)

(FY) 2021 Diversity Visa (DV) lottery Program : The State Department has started accepting online registrations for the Visa Diversity for the Exercise (FY) 2021 Lottery launched on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at noon EDT.

For the 2021 financial year, the DV lottery program will make 55,000 green card numbers available by random selection. The results of the FY 2021 lottery will be announced in September 2020. Foreign nationals selected for the FY 2021 lottery can submit their green card application from October 1, 2020.

Who can participate in the FY 2021 Diversity Visa (DV-2021) lottery?

  • The DV lottery is open to natives of countries that have historically low immigration rates to the United States.
  • People from countries with high rates of immigration to the United States are not eligible for registration.
  • This year, people born in the following countries are not eligible: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (born on the mainland), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan. , Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
  • People born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Taiwan can participate.
  • Those who cannot register because their country of birth is excluded may be eligible through a spouse born in an eligible country or, in certain circumstances, through the country of birth of a parent.
  • Participants must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) or at least two years of eligible work experience.

Registering for the lottery

  • Participants must submit an online form and a digital photo on the official DV Lottery website. DV Lottery applicants may include a spouse (same or opposite sex) and children in their registration.
  • Only one entry is allowed per person. If there are several registrations in the name of a single person, they are all disqualified.
  • Applicants must carefully follow the State Department’s official lottery instructions. Entries in the lottery and digital photos that are not precisely in accordance with the instructions will be disqualified.
  • For fiscal year 2021, the principal applicant must enter information from their valid international travel passport, unless they are stateless, a national of a country controlled by the Communists, and unable to obtain a passport from the government of the country controlled by the communists or the beneficiary of an individual exemption approved by the secretary for internal security and the secretary of state.
  • Once the request is accepted, applicants will receive a confirmation number, which can be used to check the status of their request.

How the lottery winners are chosen and informed

The State Department chooses the lottery winners by random selection on computer. The results will be published from May 5, 2020 to September 30, 2021 on the official website of the DV lottery participation status.

Foreign nationals can find out if they have been selected only by visiting the official DV website and entering their confirmation number. The State Department does not notify participants by letter, email, fax or telephone. The official website is the only legitimate source of lottery results.

DV Lottery Fraud Protection

DV lottery fraud is very common, but foreign nationals can and should take some precautions to protect themselves.

  • Look for deceptive lottery websites. The only authorized DV lottery website can be found on the State Department website. The Department of State does not use or authorize any outside person or business to accept lottery applications or manage the lottery. There are many websites that advertise themselves as official government websites or claim to have permission from the State Department. These sites should be avoided.
  • The State Department does not charge fees for lottery registrations. A website, individual, or business claiming that there is a government fee to participate in the lottery is fraudulent.
  • If assistance with the lottery is required, seek competent advice. Applicants can use a lawyer or other representative to prepare for a lottery registration, but they should beware of commercial websites that claim to register applicants outside the registration period or claim to be authorized by the State Department to accept registrations for a fee.
  • Beware of lottery emails, letters, or faxes that claim to be from the State Department. The State Department does not send emails, letters, or faxes to the DV lottery. The official website is the only legitimate source of information about the lottery results and the only place to submit a lottery entry.
  • Be skeptical of any communication that a stranger has won the DV lottery while he or she has not registered or registered in a previous year.
  • Avoid sending money or personal information to questionable people or businesses.
