Are you tired of taking a vacation in one place every year? I mean a change of environment will not hurt a soul. Though it might cost you a bit of cash, it is worth it. Trust me; you need a Holiday or a weekend in Barcelona. The city is located in Spain and has lovely places that will make your body and soul relax. I bet you will even start to see life as a whole different angle.

The magical Town has some of the fantastic places to visit. This will make your holiday or weekend worthwhile. When planning for things to do is usually a task that will cause headaches and leave you drained.  To help you with the process, here are some of the fantastic things to do when in Barcelona.

1. Visiting Barcelona City Museum

If you are a historian, this will be the perfect place to begin your holiday or weekend. The building covers 4000 square meters. This gives you a tour of a lifetime. You and your family will be able to learn about ancient times.

The museum preserves a few Roman sites such as the temple of Augustus and Funeral Way on Palca de La Vila de Madrid. There is also the Placa de Rei within the facility where you will learn about Barcelona’s ancient history. This will give you a grip on how the city came to be.

2. Admire the view from Bunkers del Carmel

This is an ideal place for couples. The sunset view is remarkable, and it will make you both fall in love with the city.  The hilltop bankers were built during the civil war in 1937. Its main aim was to act as an anti-aircraft to prevent Ariel attacks.

In 1992 it was renovated for the Olympic Games, and that was the last time it was used. I do recommend you visit the iconic place in the evening, trust me you would not want to come done. The sunset rays from the top of the building plus the fresh air will make the evening romantic for couples.

3. Visit the L Aquarium Barcelona

If you have kids, then this is the place to bring them when in town. The state of art aquarium gives you an experience of sea life. It showcases the different marine ecosystem from the whole world.

There is the shark tunnel, seahorse and octopus tank.  This will be an educative tour for the children and you as well. It is situated at the waterfront of Port Vell south of Ramblas. The venue is usually crowded at the weekend, so I would recommend you to visit during the weekdays.

4. Climb up or down Montjuic

The steep hill park is suitable for hikers as well as you who want to explore the “mount of Jews.” It is raised above Barcelona’s port and is covered with beautiful gardens. The air on at the top is refreshing at the top.

The view of the town from the hilltop is breathtaking. It is home to the Olympic stadium and Museu Nacional art galleries. There are cable cars that are used to reach the top of the hill, giving you an Ariel view of the town as well.

5. Tibidabo Amusement Park

The Park is located on top of the mountain. It is a great place to bring the kids to have a lot of fun on the swings, merry- go- round, Ferris wheels, among others. There are also whirly swings and an upside-down ride for the grownups as well. It has something for everyone, and it will be had for you to be bored.

If you are not into the equipment, then you can enjoy the view of the city from the mountain top. It is a picture that will forever be engraved in your mind. I guarantee you will lose track of time when at the top of the mountain. The view is mesmerizing, and you will need an alarm to keep track of time. The kids will also enjoy every second of their time when at the Park.

6. Camp Nou Stadium

For soccer enthusiast am sure you wouldn’t want to miss out on any game. You can catch some of the matches that are happening in the stadium live.  It is home to one of the most successful teams in the world of soccer.

If you are a Barcelona fun, then this will be on top of our list when in town. There is a tour being offered in the stadium, make sure you catch one. You will be able to see the trophy room. I understand the feeling more so if you are a fan of Barcelona FC.

7. Heading down to the beach

A holiday or weekend is not complete without experiencing what the beach offers. The tropical climate and the warm sandy beach are perfect for you to unwind.  It stretches 3 miles east of the city center. This will make your stroll along the beach relaxing.

The white sand is ideal for you to sunbathe and hang out with your family. You may decide to take a deep in the clear waters to cool the body. And even play volleyball at the beach. Some restaurants will offer you and the family with delicious seafood that will make your holiday complete.  

8. Sagrada Familia

It is a large unfinished Roman Catholic Church in the town and is designed by Antoni Gaudi. The building comprises several architectural designs. When completed, it will be the world tallest building. The long term construction was started in 2010 and should be completed in 2026.

The unique interior design of the building is impressive and gives you an illusion forest. The scenery is outstanding will sweep you off your feet. You can as well take go up using an elevator to the Nativity and Passion towers. The Native tower brings you closure to the spires on the building. This presents you with a picture-perfect view of the city through partial.

9. Casa Batllo

It is a building at the center of the town and was designed by the famous Antoni Gaudi. The locals refer to this iconic building as a house of bones. You will be amazed by the sculpted stonework. I believe the camera is the companion you can have when at the building and capture the memories.

The rooftop has been designed to look like the back of a dragon. It resembles the animal’s spine. The white wall in the loft gives paints the Mediterranean influence on the walls. You might think that you are walking on the sea bed. This is the ideal place for the family to hand out during the weekend or the holiday.  

10. Catch an exhibition at MACBA

If you are an art lover, then the museum is the place to explore. It showcase’s various artwork from different artists. The collections start as early as 1945 to date displaying sculptures and paints. You may as well decide to skate at the square. So it will be wise to have the skateboard if you are into skating and enjoy the plaza as well as the museum.

11. Ramble along Las Ramblas

The street in the town is lined with trees which gives the perfect shade. This is perfect for you to stroll. It covers 1.2 kilometers connecting Placa de Catalunya in the center and Christopher Columbus Monument at the Port Vell. Walking along the street that has 19th -Century buildings is like traveling back in time. Each building has its unique design that makes you come to a stop.

The street is also home to palm readers, and you can have your future told. There are caricature painters that you can watch as they do their art. Other attractions include the Columbus monument and the black and gold Canaletes fountain. Walking along on the streets made me think I was out of Barcelona and in another country. It is the place to go to when you want to unwind.

12. Visit the Museu de Cultures del Mon

The museum contains artifact from different parts of the world. This will be an opportunity for the children to learn while in the holidays. The museum brings the various cultures under one roof.

Here you will learn the history behind these cultures. How they lived, what they wore, eat. The artifacts include a statue, masks, and ritual objects from Asia, Africa, and America. It will be a tour that will make our holiday or weekend fulfilling.

13. Visit the Museu de Xocolata

It is a dreamland for the chocolate fanatics. The museum of chocolate is one of the remarkable places to be when in the city. It paints the history of chocolate from cocoa cultivation by the Aztecs to it being welcomed to Europe. The displays done in the museum are made of chocolate.

I know it may seem crazy when you hear about it for the first time. If you do not believe me, then come and witness the magic yourself. The chocolate sculptures change every year and range from taste football players, bullfighting scenes, and even iconic buildings. You will also be treated with live action from students learning how to make the sculptures. Maybe you can pick one or two tricks and try making one.

14. Shop at La Boqueria

It is a produce market where you will find all the fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood, meat, and juice stalls. You will be able to wrap a menu for yourself as long as you know how to prepare it.

The market is located halfway up the pedestrian through Las Ramblas. Here different people meet including the famous chefs in the town. Saturdays are the perfect day to stroll into the market and experience it coming to life. Sundays the market is closed.

15. Visit the Parc de la Ciutadella

It is the biggest Park and zoo covers 70 acres. It is the perfect place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. There is something for everyone once you set foot in the Park. You will have different things to explore and enjoy.

These include the citadel, which was a military compound that was used in the in 1714 during the war of the Spanish succession. The cascade is also another section to visit. It has breathtaking scenery that will leave you astonished. It is located on the northern corner of the Park.

The Park is situated opposite Lake Parc de la Ciutadella where you can take a boat ride and enjoy the peaceful waters. The zoo is a will be ideal for you and your family. The children will learn about the different animal species such as the Sumatran tiger and Iberian wolf. Pony rides are also offered at the zoo for the whole family.  

16. Take a steel donkey tour

This refers to a bicycle tour around the beautiful town with a guide. You can as well rent a bicycle from one of the shops and start your adventure. I recommend sticking to the guide as you will be taken to the hidden sections of the city. And discover a new place that you would not have done on your own.

Over 200 km of bike paths make it easy for one to move from one point to another. This is one of the best ways to explore the hidden treasures of the city.
