Traveling to the Gili Islands in Indonesia

If you have ever considered travelling to Indonesia we suggest you stop considering and start travelling. Bali is perhaps Indonesia’s most popular tourist destination. Lombok, however, has quite a lot in common with Bali but offers a more authentic experience in our point of view. This has mainly to do with the fact it has not yet been discovered yet for mass tourism. For the ultimate feel of paradise and peace and quiet, you must visit the nearby Gili Islands. It is very easy to book the fast boat to Gili Trawangan from main island Lombok.

Gili Trawangan, a little Less Quiet

Although the various Gili Islands have to offer peace and tranquillity, the largest of the islands; Gili Trawangan is a little more lively. It is famous for having a great nightlife. To us this offers a wonderful combination of relaxing during the day on one hand and socialising, getting to know new people and partying in the evenings. A must-visit destination if you ask us.

The Gili islands furthermore offer great diving spots to explore during the day. No need to get bored on the beach. If you do get bored on the beach you can always hang out at the pool of your resorts. Only the most beautiful hotels and resorts are found on the Gili islands. Finding one that disappoints is quite a challenge.

If you rent a bicycle you can cycle around the whole island of Gili Trawangan in about an hour. This is a great way to explore the island. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, you could also choose to discover the island on a horse.

The best months for travelling to the Gili Islands in our opinion are September October and November. The weather during these months is great and the islands are not too crowded by fellow tourists.
