#BookSnapSunday – Year of the King

#BookSnapSunday #bookstagram This week's Book snap is an old favourite, since I have been promoting the virtues of keeping journals on the blog, thought I would share one of my favorite published journals, Anthony Sher's Year of the king, a remarkable account of the process of acting and creating and interpreting a character. A fantastic book if you are looking for insight into Shakespeare's Richard the third, insightful, and entertaining. Sher is not just a great actor but a wonderful writer and talented artist, the cover image is from one of Sher's self portraits. This is a great read and while it is an old and slightly obscure book it is well worth seeking out, I know there is a copy in the USQ library and my well loved copy has been read by my daughter and several of her friends. Oh and the grey shadow behind is Dash I was trying to get him to pose with the book but that was as good as I could get.

For this week’s book snap I picked a great example of a published journal, Anthony Sher’s journal from the year he created a legendary, award winning performance as Shakespeare’s Richard the third. A remarkable account of the craft of acting and a very insightful examination of the play. Sher is also interesting for his account of being a South African Jew at the height of apartheid, this is a highly entertaining and insightful account, Sher is a talented artist and his artwork is scattered through the book.
