Skiathos, an island located in a fairly calm environment, is very popular among sailors who want to explore the Sporades. It provides visitors with numerous entertainment opportunities, diverse beaches and beautiful pines.

The weather of Skiathos
The islands of the Sporades have a Mediterranean climate, but certain properties of the temperate climate are also present here. Winters are quite cold with an average daily temperature of 6° Celsius in January. In the summer, the warmest period is between July and August when the average daily temperature is 23-24° Celsius. The peak temperature is around 30-32° Celsius during this period with a high level of humidity and mostly Mediterranean rain patterns. We can expect longer periods of rain sometimes between October and April. There are also showers in the summer, even though on a rare occasion. The temperature of the sea is only 14° Celsius between December and February and 23° Celsius from July to the beginning of September. Check the sailing conditions and wind rose diagram of Skiathos.
Ports around Skiathos
Skiathos Marina
350 boats are allowed in the marina near the capital of Skiathos, with a maximum length of 65 metres and draught of 10 metres. The marina offers full service – sailors will find everything they might need here including a boat service, fuel, Wi-Fi as well as water and groceries.
Loutraki Marina
You can find this port in the northwestern part of Skopelos, in the town of Loutraki. They accommodate boats with a length of up to 60 metres and a draught of up to 4 metres. They do not offer a wide variety of services, but we will still have the opportunity to replenish our water supplies and buy groceries.
Limin Skopélou Marina
This tiny marina can be found on the eastern side of Skopelos, in the city which bears the same name. They accommodate boats with a maximum length of 60 metres and draught of 6 metres. They have all the basic services; they provide water, boat service and fuel, and they also have restaurants.
Limin Linaria Marina
The small marina welcomes tourists in the town of Linaria, on the island of Skyros. They accommodate boats with a length of up to 60 metres and draught of up to 4 metres. Their services include maintenance, water supply, markets, bars and restaurants.

1-week sailing in Skiathos
During this trip, you will pass by four inhabited islands of the Sporades, and you can also visit some smaller ones that are partly or entirely uninhabited. You can expect fairly short distances with the exception of the last section, which is quite long.
Day 1: Skiathos – Loutraki (Skopelos)
10.68 km (6.63 mi)
Your first stop should be the marina of Loutraki, which can be reached almost all the way by sailing. You will also find a fairly neat sandy-pebbly beach next to the marina. You should definitely not miss the sunset here – the sun disappearing behind the island of Skiathos is a truly wonderful sight! If you feel like exploring the village of Glossa, you should climb the hill to do so. If you arrive on time, you will find the local cultural heritage museum open.
Day 2: Loutraki (Skopelos) – Skopelos (Skopelos)
22.55 km (14.01 mi)
Leaving from Loutraki, continue your trip towards the north, then navigating along the shoreline of Skopelos, you will eventually arrive at the capital of the island. You will have a chance to visit several beautiful beaches along the way. You will be amazed at the capital with its zigzagged streets, narrow alleys and diverse architecture. There are several monasteries and churches in town and nearby. If you are looking for something more adventurous, visit the local watersports centre! Here you can try scuba-diving, wakeboarding and jet skiing. Should you be in the mood for a hike, you can go to the ancient pirate graves on Mount Karia.
Day 3: Skopelos (Skopelos) – Patitiri (Alonissos)

After a short trip, you will arrive at the southern marina of Alonissos: Patitiri. The tiny village surrounded by beautiful pines offers a calm environment. If you are interested in the local history, you should visit the private ethnographic museum. The village’s neighbourhood is also rich in beaches ideal for swimming that you should not miss out on either!
Day 4: Patitiri (Alonissos) – Kalamakia (Alonissos)
9.29 km (5.77 mi)
Follow the shoreline towards the northeast and you will get to anchor at Kalamakia after a short trip. This village is an ideal starting point to explore the northern part of Alonissos. There are several hidden churches and monasteries nearby. Sail to the tiny islands in the area as well! We particularly recommend Peristera with its almost entirely unspoiled natural environment.
Day 5: Kalamakia (Alonissos) – Kira Panagia
17.50 km (10.87 mi)
You should buy groceries in advance as you will have to take care of yourself where you are headed. If you are ready, sail towards the northeast and anchor at the island of Kira Panagia. There is only one building here: a 16th-century monastery reconstructed in 2017. You can hike and enjoy the water in a practically unexplored natural environment.
Day 6: Kira Panagia – Skatzoura
28.28 km (17.57 mi)
Navigate towards the south, and visit the tiny island of Skatzoura! If you are running out of supplies, make a stop at Kalamakia – the island that you left 2 days ago. In Skatzoura, you can admire an old monastery from the outside. The island – rarely visited by tourists – offers many tiny islands that you can sail around.
Day 7: Skatzoura – Skyros (Skyros) – Linaria (Skyros)
91.35 km (56.76 mi)
Prepare for a longer sailing trip this time. Sail towards the southeast and visit the capital of Skyros on the northeastern coast of the island. Then follow the shoreline clockwise. You can return your boat in the port of Linaria. If you sail in the summer, the wind coming from the south and the southwest will make your life easier.
There are many interesting sights to see around the capital of Skyros. Walk up to the Byzantine fort towering above town, providing a wonderful view of the beach. You will find the ancient ruin city Palamari on the northeast. The city’s findings can be observed in the archaeological museum of the capital. If you are interested in churches, you will see quite a few here.
After leaving the capital, you will arrive at your final destination if you follow the shoreline. There are some amazing smaller beaches around the marina of Linaria. If you like ponies, you must definitely visit the farms of the local pony breeders; this will be your only chance to see the Skyrios ponies!
7 Days Skiathos sailing trip
You can sail around the inhabited islands of the Sporades and spend a day on the uninhabited island of Kira Panagia. Compared to the one-way route, this one consists of longer and more challenging sections.
