Underwater museum, an attraction around the world

Surrounded by marine life and an infinity of blue tones accompany most of these artistic collections in the best Underwater museums in the world.

The purpose of most of these museums is the proliferation of marine flora and fauna in these places. These artistic collections lie permanently submerged in different parts of the world, from the Caribbean Sea Mexico, the Mediterranean coasts of Israel and Turkey to the Chinese Yangtze River.

Underwater museums full of history

Each of these underwater museums has quite a valuable history. Due to its large extension with a total of 8 thousand hectares, the list is headed by an adorable Museum entitled MUSE.

Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA)

The MUSA located in the waters surrounding the Cancun Marine Park, Women Island and Punta Nizuc on the beautiful beaches of Cancun.

This sculptural space is an Underwater Museum that is divided into two rooms: Manchones and Punta Nizuc, this project founded by Jaime Gonzalez Cano, director of the National Marine Park and Roberto Díaz, President of Asociados Náuticos de Cancún together with the English sculptor Jason de Caires .

The objective of this underwater museum is to demonstrate the interaction between the art and science of environmental conservation in addition to helping the tourist reactivation of the city of Cancun. The idea was to form an artificial reef structure to strengthen the proliferation of the beautiful Marine life.

This underwater museum has more than 500 permanent life-size sculptures, all true works of art. The collection includes sculptures representing people of all ages and professions, as well as some activities commonly performed by humans.

Underwater Archaeological Museum of Alexandria

This Museum has an impressive historical load, since it shows the bay that houses the ruins of the famous lighthouse of Alexandria one of the seven wonders of the world, as well as those of the palace of the Ptolemaic Dynasty.

The first indications of the existence of an underwater cultural heritage in Alexandria were found at the beginning of the 20th century.

This Underwater Museum is protected by UNESCO. This organization has been interested in the conservation and protection of these underwater sites in Alexandria for more than 40 years.

The Alexandria Museum consists of two spaces for its exhibition, one out of the water and an underwater area, in addition to a tunnel that leads from the section out of the water to the underwater room that invites us to the circular chamber where the remains of the ancient cities already submerged.

Underwater Chinese Inscriptions

In the Asian continent we can find one of the underwater museums in the world, the Baiheliang Underwater Museum, an archaeological site located in Chopping (central China) which was submerged under the waters of the Three Gorges reservoir, after being built a few years earlier.

It contains some of the oldest hydrological inscriptions in the world, in which 1,200 years of changes in the water level of the Yangtze River are recorded.

The rocky ridge is 1,600 meters long and 15 meters wide and is submerged 30 meters below the surface of the Three Gorges Dam. Since 1994, the Chinese official cultural heritage protection services have undertaken research on the preservation of the Baiheliang stone inscriptions, which led to the transformation and reconstruction to have the Underwater Museum.
