1. Highest Statue in the World!

The Statue of Unity is one of the most famous statues in the world. This statue is made in memory of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel who was a great leader in India.

The height of this statue is 182 meters. Right now, this statue is considered the highest statue in the world.

2. Huge Number of engineers and workers worked to build the Statue of Unity

Most of you must not be knowing that there were huge numbers of engineers and workers who worked to build the Statue of Unity.

300 engineers and 3000 workers worked for almost three and half years to complete this statue.

3. Cost to build the Statue

Rupees 3,000 crores or USD $400-450 million was spent on the construction of the Statue Of Unity.

4. Materials Used In Making of The Statue Of Unity

70,000 tons of cement, 25000 tons of steel, and 12,000 bronze panels covering the structure and weighing around 1700 tons were used to build this great statue.

5. Design of the Statue

The Statue of Unity is the statue of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.

Before the making of the Statue Of Unity, a team of historians, artists and academics studied a lot of statues of Patel across India.

After studying these statues, they chose the statue of Patel that was made by Indian Sculptor, Ram V. Sutra.

The Statue of Unity is a larger replica of the Statue of Vallabh Bhai Patel that is installed in Ahmedabad International Airport.

Ram Sutra’s son Anil Sutra explained the design of the statue.

He said that “the expression, posture and pose justify the dignity, confidence, iron will as well as kindness that his personality exudes. The head is up, a shawl flung from shoulders, and hands are on the side as if he is set to walk”

The Statue is located next to the mighty river Narmada and the Sardar Sarovar Dam, with the beautiful Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges on both sides.

7. Bronze Cladding of the Statue

The Bronze cladding of the statue has been done by China’s Jiangxi Toqine Company. The Statue of Unity is a three-layered statue.

The innermost layer is made up of reinforced cement concrete, steel, and 8mm bronze.

8. About the Height of the Statue

The Statue of Unity (182 meters) is twice the size of the Statue of Liberty (93 meters) in the United States and is 40% taller than China’s Spring Temple Buddha (128 meters).

9. India’s Farmers Contribution in making of the Statue

Over 129 tons of scrap iron were used in making the base of the statue. And this iron scrap was donated by 100 million farmers of India.

10. Amazing Toughness of the Statue

This statue is so well designed that it can withstand huge earthquakes and wind speeds of 100 km/second.

11. Aging of the Statue

Seeing the heading you must be amazed that how the aging of a Statue can occur. But yes, it’s true.

And it is a normal process.

The Statue of Unity would turn from the bronze color to the green color due to a natural aging process of bronze. The chemical name for the process is oxidation.

The Statue of Liberty also turned from its original dull brown color to green after 30 years.

12. The High Speed Lift Inside Statue Of Unity

Inside the Statue there are four high-speed lifts. These lifts are in the statue’s leg. Moreover, one lift can carry around 26 people to the top in just 30 seconds.

A Small Introduction About Vallabh Bhai Patel

Vallabh Bhai Patel (31 October 1875 – 15 December 1950) was also known as Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. The meaning of Sardar in English is Chief.

He was the Deputy Prime Minister of India from 1947 to 1950. Moreover, he was also a senior leader of the Indian National Congress that played an important role in the struggle for independence.

Other than this he served as the Home Minister of India during the political integration of India and the Indo-Pakistan war of 1947.

By profession, Vallabh Bhai Patel was a successful lawyer.

After suffering a massive heart attack (his second heart attack), Patel died on 15 December 1950 at Birla House in Bombay.

The meaning of “Statue of Unity” is the Statue that unites. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was the leader in India that united 562 princely states of India with a former British Raj to form the single Union of India.

And thus, the name of the statue of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel is called the Statue of Unity.

The statue was made in Gujarat, India on the bank of the Narmada River and facing Sardar Sarovar Dam.

About the tickets and Pricing

There are four types of tickets for the Statue of Unity

1. Basic Entry Ticket

Price – Rupees 150 for adults and Rupees 90 for children (age 3-15)

Basic Entry ticket includes access to the Monument, Museum, Exhibition Areas, Projection Mapping show, Valley of Flowers, Sardar Sarovar Dam Viewpoints, and Bus Service.

This ticket does not include the entry to the Unity viewing gallery.

2. Viewing Gallery Ticket

Price – Rupees 380 for adults and Rupees 230 for children

This ticket includes all the benefits of the Basic Entry Ticket and also gives you access to the Viewing Gallery.

3. Express Entry Ticket

Price – Rupees 1030 for both adults as well as children

The problem in viewing the gallery is the waiting time for the elevator. On more crowded days like Saturday and Sunday, the waiting time may go up to a few minutes to even hours.

So, in order to avoid this problem, you can purchase an Express Entry Ticket. This ticket gives you the priority to go in the elevator before the others in order to reach the viewing gallery.

4. Foreigner Express Entry Ticket

Price – Rupees 1530 for adults and 830 for children

This ticket is for non-Indian guests and includes all the benefits from Express Entry Ticket.
