Another Place by Antony Gormley at Crosby Beach

Another Place (sculpture) ©UK Every Day

Antony Gormley’s Another Place is a series of sculptures located on Crosby Beach in Merseyside. The sculptures are made of cast iron and each of them weights 650 kilos. They are formed of the artist’s own body and looking towards the sea.

This artwork is a powerful reminder of our mortality and represents the same body that has been manufactured 100 times. An image of a middle-aged man emerging from the sea to look at the ships transporting goods around the world.

Another Place uses the low and high tides to show human interaction with nature. The sculptures are visible from different angles so that the viewer can appreciate their beauty. In fact, the farthest sculpture is located 1 kilometer from the shoreline.

Crosby Beach is a place where people can come together and reflect on their own existence in the world. This beautiful work allows for connecting with nature and finding meaning in life.

It was planned that the statues would be moved to New York in November 2006. However, they remained on Crosby Beach and became one of the best local attractions. The installation of 100 sculptures took three weeks so it would be a shame to get rid of them from Crosby Beach.

Sculptures are on meter-high foundation piles and are known as “The Iron Men”. The work encourages viewers to contemplate their own existence in relation to the vastness of the universe. Anthony Place sculptures are both eerie and beautiful, and provide a unique experience for those who explore them.

Swimming at Crosby Beach

Swimming at Crosby Beach is not allowed. Moreover, there is very soft sand and mud, as well as changing tides so do not try to walk to the sculptures in the sea. You can play beach volleyball instead or have a walk along the beach and enjoy some of the most beautiful sunsets near Liverpool.

Can you take dogs to Crosby Beach?
