Places to visit in Shimla

In this blog post, I am gonna list down a few must places to Visit in Shimla. My first ever trip with my girls’ gang was to Shimla. Shimla, the beautiful capital of Himachal Pradesh, is an eccentric path spread with rustic houses. Situated at an altitude of 2205m, it attracts an army of tourists every year. There are many places to visit in Shimla. Shimla has snow-capped mountains, dense forests, green pastures, and a round-the-year pleasant climate. For snow lovers, winters are the best time to visit Shimla.

I went to Shimla in October with my BFFs. It was a two-day trip. We went to many places in Shimla. As a result, I am going to list down the top places to visit in Shimla.

Places to visit in Shimla

1. Christ Church, a must place to visit in Shimla

Built-in 1857 by Bishon Wilson of Calcutta, Christ church is one of the oldest churches in north India. Situated at the ridge and one of the prime attractions in Shimla and designed in the neo-Gothic style. The church contains five fine stained glass windows. Each representing the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, Patience, and Humility. Anyone visiting Shimla should add this in the list of places to visit in Shimla.

2. The Jhakoo Temple, Shimla

The jhakoo temple is a religious place located on the jhakoo hill ( ht. 8000ft. above sea level) which is at a distance of 2.5 km from the ridge. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. As per Ramayana, while searching for sanjivani booti to revive Lakshmana, Hanuman stopped at this place for some rest. Each year, a huge festival organized on Dussehra attracts a huge number of tourists. Tourists can walk up the path to reach the temple or take a taxi or pony to reach the temple. There are huge numbers of monkeys found at the temple which wait to be fed by visitors. One should definitely visit the jhakoo temple for some beautiful views of the Shivalik mountains and the nearby town of sanjauli. Do include this in your places to visit in Shimla.

3. The Ridge, Shimla

Located in the center of Shimla, the ridge road is the large open space used for organizing the cultural activities of the city. Situated along the Mall Road, the famous shopping center of Shimla leads to the lakkar bazaar, a wooden crafts market. The popular summer festival held during April-may takes place at the ridge. When it snows, it provides a magnificent view. Therefore, a highly recommended place to visit in Shimla.

4. The Mall Road, Shimla

Also known as the famous shopping center of Shimla, the mall road is situated below the ridge. Mall Road has a majority of offices of the municipal corporation, police headquarters, showrooms, department stores, shops, restaurants, and cafes. No vehicles permitted on the road, except emergency vehicles. Some of the main attractions on mall road are – the scandal point, gaiety theatre, kali bari temple and town hall making it a good addition to places to visit in Shimla.

5. Foodies Paradise, Shimla

We went to some amazing cafes in Shimla. Therefore, I am going to list down a few amazing cafes you must add in your list when you go to Shimla.

  • Wake and bake café- Located at the mall road, this place has an amazing interior and seating area. Getting the window seat would be like a cherry on the cake. If you want to try the best pizzas and pancakes in Shimla, you should definitely visit this place. This place is totally worth your time and money.
  • Embassy the restaurant- It is one of the oldest coffee shops and bakery in Shimla. It has some delicious homemade cakes and pastries. The interior is decorated with thousands of handwritten pamphelets and posters making it look attractive and unique. It also serves a very interesting variety of coffee. Highly recommendable for coffee and cake lovers.
  • Café Shimla times- One of the best cafes in the city which gives you an amazing view of the city. One should try white sauce pasta, noodles and Manchurian here for the perfect taste. A variety of dishes at affordable rates are available. It is a huge place with indoor as well as outdoor sitting. For live band music lovers, it is a must visit cafe.
