Route of Climbing Pokalde Peak in Autumn

The journey of Climbing Pokalde Peak in Autumn starts with a short but thrilling flight to Lukla Airport (one of the most dangerous airports). After this nerve-racking 35-40 minutes flight, you start to trek along the route that once was traveled by the first Everest Summitters (Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay).

From Lukla, you trek along the conventional Everest Base Camp trek route that takes you to various sherpa settlements from Phakding to Namche Bazar. As you trek, you will leave villages behind and slowly ascend alongside the ever-flowing Dudh Koshi River and the suspension bridge. The trail from Phadking to Namche Bazaar is stunning, where you get by crossing the zig-zags, many small teahouses, and forested hills.

Namche Bazaar is the best acclimatization spot with its thriving Sherpa culture and small shops. You can skip the flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding and directly reach here with the help of a helicopter ride.

Your trek continues from Namche towards the small settlements of Lobuche via Tengboche and Dingboche. The trails up to Lobuche will be a little hard than expected, but all the stunning panoramas of the mountains and the route with stupas, mani walls, and Tengboche Monastery make all the efforts worthwhile.

From Lobuche, we ascend higher until we reach Kala Patthar via Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp. You can also encounter peaks like Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Everest, and Makalu from EBC and Kala Patthar at their finest in Autumn.

After spending some time here in Kala Patthar at 5,644.5 m (18,519 ft), we trek down towards Lobuche and finally towards the Pokalde Base Camp via Kongma La Pass (5,535). The route up to the base camp from Lobuche will be steep because of the rocky path.

We will spend a night at Pokalde Base Camp and make a further 600m ascend towards the Highcamp. During our stay in High Camp, we will meet all the preparation requirements, and on the following day, we will climb with our experience sherpa guides to reach the peak of Pokalde at 5,806m. The section from High Camp is not technical but is a pretty vertical climb.

The total climbing hours from the high camp to the peak is around 5 hours, which is undoubtedly worth it. After reaching the peak, you will see the mountains with elevations above 7000 and 8000m surrounding the Pokalde Peak. And the best part here is the clear and stunning views during the Autumn season.

After reaching the top, we again trek back towards Chukkung. Moreover, we pass along places like Tengboche and Monjo until we reach Lukla. We rest here at Lukla and then fly to Kathmandu, where our Pokalde Peak Climbing officially ends.
