Fun at East Beach on St. Simons Island

If you’re spending time on Saint Simons Island in Georgia, you will certainly want to be sure to visit East Beach. It is likely the beach is why you are visiting. Though you will also find the town charming, and the area filled with interesting history. St Simons East Beach is a wonderful Coastal Georgia beach on which to enjoy a relaxing and enjoyable day in the sun, or stay for a week. This St Simons Island public beach is known for its soft sand, cleanliness, and conveniently located amenities.

St Simons Island is a beach town, one of the Golden Isles, located on the Atlantic Coast of Georgia just north of Florida. Not only does the island have spectacular beaches, but also a deep history, authentic southern food and lots of things for a family to do.

A climb up the St Simons Island Lighthouse and visit to the museum was a highlight for our kids.

A few historic sites in the area include the St Simons Island Lighthouse and Fort Frederica National Monument. Visit the area parks including Neptune Park for water fun and Massengale Park. A day trip to nearby Jekyll Island should also be on your to do list. In fact, there are so many fun things to do in St Simons Island with kids that you have have a hard time narrowing it down to your favorites.

St Simons East Beach is a beautiful public beach perfect for splashing in the waves, relaxing with a book or building sand castles. A sunrise and sunset walk is also a must-do as you capture some amazing St Simons Island photos with framing.

The beach is also pet friendly. It can be a great place to go for a run with your dog. Be aware that hours are restricted for dogs from Memorial Day until Labor Day to 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. and must always be within immediate control.

A place to build sand castles is all our youngest needs to be happy at the beach.

Is There Public Parking for East Beach?

Public parking is available for all guests looking to spend time at the beach. Pack a cooler with your favorite drinks and sandwiches, bring the headphones and a good book, and don’t forget the sunscreen before driving over to the parking lot of East Beach. You can park your vehicle and take a short walk to get to the sand. It’s only going to take a few minutes for you to get from your car to the oceanside.

How to access the beach?

Park and access the beach from the historic Coast Guard Station, named after the coast guard station that still remains at the entrance. This area is also called “First Street Beach Access,” which is what is displayed on most signs in the area and by the name “Coast Guard Station”. This is one more popular spots for public beach access of all the beach access points.

Check the Tides Before You Get in the Water

Always check details on the tides before you decide to get in the water while you’re at East Beach. When tides are high, it’s best to avoid going out too deep in the water, primarily due to the rip currents. Of course, you may only want to get your feet wet. It all depends on how comfortable you feel in the ocean. When the tides are low, and the water is calm, you may want to participate in different water activities,. Such as swimming, surfing, or even hopping the waves while holding hands with your loved ones.

A day trip over to Jekyll Island is a must-do family activity while on St Simons Island.

What to Expect During a Visit to East Beach

You can expect to have a fun and relaxing time during your visit to East Beach. You can bring your pets with you to walk along the sand in non-peak season. But make sure you have protective booties for those paws! The sand tends to get hot when it’s hot and humid outside. On the other hand, the clean beach is a perfect spot for sunbathing. You may want to enjoy natural sunlight while reading your favorite book or resting and listening to music. Public restrooms are available, along with shared showers. You won’t have to worry about going back to your hotel room to wash up or use the bathroom in the middle of the day.

East Beach is a peaceful place to visit. It’s common to see families spending time together. Sunbathing, sitting under a beach umbrella, or using boogie boards in the water. You may even want to bring plastic buckets and shovels to build sandcastles with the children. Keeping them occupied and entertained even longer.

Where to Stay on East Beach St Simons Island

East Beach rentals are plentiful and the perfect place to stay when visiting for a beach vacation. We happened to stay at the Beach Club on St Simons during our visit. We loved the location and easy access to the beach, as well as the spacious condo and pool. Hodnett Cooper manages many of the vacation rentals East Beach. The King and Price Resort is also located on East Beach and is popular with visitors.

The beach Club at St Simons is an idea home base for families with a beautiful pool and access to the beach just over the boardwalk.

When you’d like to have an affordable day of fun in the sun, visit East Beach with your family. It’s clean, family-friendly, and close to different restaurants and shops. You can park your vehicle in the public parking lot. Then set up on the ideal spot in the sand before enjoying the beautiful beach. Regardless of what you decide to do while you’re there, expect to have a genuinely good time.
