Things to do in Amsterdam in 3 days

Well-known for its picturesque canals and world-class museums, Amsterdam or as some like to call it the “Venice of the North” offers plenty of sightseeing opportunities for tourists. Travelers on short
business trips and tourists who are planning to visit the capital of the Netherlands on the weekends will be happy to hear that 3 days in Amsterdam is more than enough time to see all the major landmarks and visit some of the most popular attractions in the city. Here are my top recommendations for a 3-day itinerary in Amsterdam.

1 Go on a Boat Cruise

A canal cruise allows travelers to see the city of Amsterdam from a different perspective. Canal cruise stops can be found all around the city and there are plenty of boat tours to choose from. From romantic canal experiences with Amsterdam Jewel Cruises to child-friendly pizza boat tours to historic tours by the Blue Boat Company, you’re definitely spoilt for choice.

2 Explore the Dam Square

Home to the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, the Dam Square is the main square in Amsterdam that connects two main shopping streets, Kalverstraat and the Nieuwendijk. You will also have an
opportunity to see the National Monument here, as well as the popular wax museum, Madame Tussauds. Shopaholics can check out De Bijenkorf, one of the biggest shopping malls in the city.

3 See a Market or Two

Every 3-day travel itinerary in Amsterdam should include a visit to a couple of cool markets in the city.
Places like Albert Cuypmarkt in De Pij where you can try local specialties like stroopwafels and poffertjes and IJ-Hallen flea market that offers everything from second-hand clothing to books and jewelry are not to be missed. The most popular market in Amsterdam is the lovely Flower Market on the Singel Canal.

4 Visit a Museum

There are many interesting things to do in Amsterdam in 3 days and exploring the city’s fabulous museums is a great way to spend a day. Whether you wish to pay a visit to the spectacular Van Gogh
museum and Rijksmuseum building which houses masterpieces from artists like Rembrandt and Vermeer or head out to the Stedelijk where modern art can be found, Amsterdam has it all. Don’t forget to stop by the famous Anne Frank House.

5 The Heineken Experience Tour

Beer lovers will definitely love this one. You’ve probably heard of Heineken beer from the Netherlands. It is the most famous beer in the country and there is an interactive tour called the Heineken Experience available for visitors. Learn about the history of this beer and how it’s made. You won’t stay thirsty on this awesome tour, as it includes a visit to the factory’s tasting room.

6 Check out the Red Light District

With hundreds of bars and nightclubs, Amsterdam is well-known for its vibrant nightlife. Not to be missed is the infamous Red Light District. Keep in mind that the area tends to get extremely crowded at night, so it’s a good option to visit the Red Light District during day time.

7 Explore Vondelpark with a Bike

Also known as the world’s bike capital, Amsterdam is best explored on 2 wheels! Although there are many places in the city worth visiting by bike, my favorite destination is the lovely Vondelpark. This is the largest park in the city and a great spot to lie on the grass, make a picnic, and enjoy various sports activities.
