Here’s 3 Reasons Why We Love Paris

We celebrated five years of marriage this year with a Trip to Paris and Rome. We fell in love with Paris and wanted to share with you why we love Paris. It was our second time out of the country together and it’s now one of our favorite trips. We had so much fun experiencing these two countries together. Our trip couldn’t have been any better. When we announced that we were going to Paris and Rome, we had so many people reach out to say, “So excited you’re going to Rome,” or “I can’t wait to see all your pictures of Rome.” Rome is definitely incredible with all its history, food and culture, but Paris is also incredible! After this trip, we kept getting asked which is better and asked to compare the two cities. To compare these two cities would be impossible! We’re travel enthusiasts and travel for the sake of experiencing new places. I think it’s important to experience each city on your own to decide what you love or don’t love about it. But since so many people asked, I will share with you what I love about Paris and I hope it encourages you to see it for yourself!

Reason #1 Food

One of the things I love about Paris is, of course, the food. On our first day we arrived at our hotel after being awake for 20+ hours, so we decided to get food as soon as possible. We were staying near the Eiffel Tower, so we hopped on the metro and headed that way. We were using Google Maps and Yelp to find places to eat. That was my first night in a different country, on a different continent, and I was exhausted from traveling. It was starting to rain and we were getting cold so we decided to stop in at Le Suffren for dinner. I desperately needed caffeine so I ordered some espresso. We followed that up with French onion soup and then ended the meal with delicious four cheese pizza. It could have been from the cold or lack of sleep, but this meal was delicious. We spent the rest of our trip finding random cafes and restaurants and following food advice from the show “I’ll Have What Phil is Having.” I think there’s definitely a blog post in the works for our food experience throughout this trip!

Reason #2 History and Architecture

When Notre Dame burned down did you watch the news? We watched the beautiful church burn on the news just a few weeks after visiting it for the first time and were completely devastated. It was surreal seeing most of the historic sites in Paris, like Notre Dame, for the first time. Our first time seeing the Eiffel Tower was after exiting the metro and looking all around for it, only for it to suddenly appear after turning a corner. It truly surprised us by how beautiful it was. I used a quote on our Instagram story while we were there, “Better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times.” I believe that’s true after seeing the Eiffel Tower. I know you have seen the Eiffel Tower, The Lourve and Notre Dame a thousand times in the news, social media and movies, but it’s so much better to experience it in person. You can experience so much of Paris just by getting on the metro and riding it around the city. History just pours out on to the streets from all the beautiful buildings. One of our favorite parts of Paris was walking around and exploring the public parks. We went the first week of April and the cherry blossoms were in bloom and they made every shot beautiful. One of my favorite pictures from this trip is Notre Dame with the cherry blossoms. We seriously got lucky seeing the cherry blossoms in bloom, we did not plan that at all!

Reason #3 The People

Paris may be known as the city of love, but it’s a working city with so many people constantly moving about. I feel like people often think the French are rude, but we never experienced this on our trip. Almost everyone was super friendly and helpful even with the language barrier. We had dinner with some friends of Cory’s dad one night, we had never met them before this, but we instantly became friends. We connected over music, life and love while enjoying a great meal and had the best evening together. We also were able to stay at some different friends’ of Cory’s dad apartment while they were on vacation and we formed a friendship with them. They gave us advice for the best ways to get around their city and the places that they recommended us visiting the most. We will actually be seeing them soon on our trip to Morocco in August! These are the moments that mean the most to me as a traveler. Yes, seeing a new country and experiencing the culture is amazing, but making new friends while exploring is something really special. I love telling stories about our travels. I love telling friends and family about the people I met and bonded with. When you share stories about a place like this with people who have never been there it opens them up to the possibility of traveling more. Do you have any friends that you met while on a trip?

We both love Paris and hope this will inspire you to consider it for your next trip. It’s such a fun city for families, couples and even first time travelers looking for a city adventure. Paris feels like one of those cities I would move to given the opportunity. It’s so full of energy and history that it ranks high on my lists. Have you been to Paris? How do you feel about this city?
