Busch Gardens Tampa Best Roller Coasters In Florida

Busch Gardens Tampa Best Roller Coasters In Florida

Have you been to Busch Gardens Tampa recently? If you didn’t know already, they have some of the best roller coasters in Florida. I love roller coasters and enjoy the engineering behind them. I’ve always been a fan of roller coasters, even when I was younger. This park has a total of seven major roller coasters throughout the park. These coasters each have their own unique thrills, ranging from speed, multiple launches, and tons of inversions and spins! This was my second time visiting this park. My first experience with this park was on a very busy weekend and my most recent experience with this park was on a weekday. It wasn’t busy at all this last time, so I was able to ride almost every coaster they have. Since I was able to ride almost all of them, I wanted to share with you the fun features, height requirements and my experience on each coaster at Busch Gardens Tampa!

Montu

@Thomas-Suisse

You will see and hear Montu from the parking lot. It towers over the road and that side of the park. I love walking into Busch Gardens Tampa when Montu is running because it’s so loud and tall. It always makes me super excited to go explore the park and ride some roller coasters. Montu is an inverted coaster built by Bolliger & Mabillard and when it was built, it broke a few different records. Busch Gardens has a habit of breaking records every time they build a new coaster! Montu has unique features like an Immelmann loop, a zero-g roll, a batwing and a corkscrew. One of my favorite parts about Montu was how fast it was and it never seemed to slow down in the 3 minute runtime!

Height – 150 ft (46 m)
Drop – 128 ft (39 m)
Length – 3,983 ft (1,214 m)
Speed – 60 mph (97 km/h)
Inversions – 7
Duration – 3 minutes
G-force – 3.8
Height Restriction – 54 in (137 cm)

Cheetah Hunt

Instagram @themeparkslover

The name should give this one away. It was made for speed with multiple launches throughout the track. We really enjoyed this rollercoaster. It’s smooth and has a track length of 4,429 ft. If you have been on Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal Orlando, then this ride will feel familiar since it was built by the same manufacturer, Intamin. I would recommend this coaster to anyone who likes coasters that don’t have that many inversions. This coaster was built for speed, length and run time of the ride. It’s a perfect coaster for anyone getting into thrill rides. It’s one of Cory and I’s favorite in the park. The queue time can vary for this coaster depending on the day of the week. I’ve seen the ride queue at a zero minute wait all the way up to a 70 minute wait. It’s impressive to see a 70 minute wait on a coaster that’s 8 years old!

Height – 102 ft (31 m)
Drop – 130 ft (40 m)
Length – 4,429 ft (1,350 m)
Speed – 60 mph (97 km/h)
Inversions – 1
G-force – 4
Height Restriction – 48 in (122 cm)

Tigris

Instagram @themeparkslover

The newest roller coaster in the park and the roller coaster with the shortest run time in the park, is Tigris. Tigris is also Florida’s tallest launch coaster. This ride is unique for anyone who has never been on this style roller coaster before. It starts with a partial launch out of the station and falls back through the station for a powerful launch that will get you through the 150 foot skyward surge. Cory had no idea what this roller coaster did, so it was a complete surprise to her. She loved every second of this rollercoaster and it’s her favorite in the park. One of the highlights is the slow inverted heartline roll at the very top of the coaster that will have you out of your seat. Tigris was a walk-on last time we went on a Wednesday and the highest the wait time reached was only 15 minutes. I highly recommend letting this roller coaster be a surprise to everyone in your party. It will make it way more exciting!

Height – 150 ft (46 m)
Drop – 135 ft (41 m)
Length – 863 ft (263 m)
Speed – 62 mph (100 km/h)
Inversions – 1
Height Restriction – 54 in (137 cm)

Cobra’s Curse

Instagram @themeparkslover

Cobra’s Curse is a newer coaster in the park and features many surprises. One of the things that impressed me was the theming on this coaster, it had so much detail and immersed you in the ride’s atmosphere. The queue time for this coaster was under 10 minutes and even when walking straight through the queue line, you still can see all the details. The three features that stand out are the first initial elevator lift, the backward section of the track and the final spinning section. This was another coaster where Cory had no idea what this coaster did and she came off extremely excited about the ride. This coaster is perfect for anyone in your group who wants to ride a roller coaster, but isn’t into the serious coasters. The ride does have a lower height requirement so your little thrill-seekers can ride!

Height – 70 ft (21 m)
Length – 2,100 ft (640 m)
Speed – 40 mph (64 km/h)
Inversions – 0
Height Restriction – 42 in (107 cm)

Kumba

Instagram @themeparkslover

Kumba is old, but it still packs a punch in its 26 years of operation. One of the first reactions I had when walking up to this coaster was how loud it was in comparison to other coasters made by the same manufacturer (Montu, Sheikra, Hulk, Manta and Mako). I love all of the interesting engineering facts about Kumba, like how the supports do not have sand to dampen the noise of the coaster which produces that louder sound when the coaster is cycling. Kumba is not for the faint of heart, it has seven inversions and you will experience 3.8 times the force of gravity on this three-minute ride! I was worried that Kumba would be pretty rough and give me that head-banging feeling, but surprisingly enough it was not that bad. If you ever had the chance to ride The Incredible Hulk coaster before it was closed for a major refurbishment in 2015, then you will remember how incredibly rough it was and that’s exactly what I expected from Kumba. I will admit that I generally don’t feel sick on roller coasters, but Kumba was one more inversion away from me throwing up. Kumba is definitely worth riding since it’s still in the top 50 golden ticket awards for steel coasters!

Height – 143 ft (44 m)
Drop – 135 ft (41 m)
Length – 3,978 ft (1,212 m)
Speed – 60 mph (97 km/h)
Inversions – 7
Duration – 2:30
G-force – 3.8
Height Restriction – 54 in (137 cm)

Are seven inversions too many for you?

Sheikra

Instagram @themeparkslover

This coaster is hard to miss. It’s a dive coaster and the main feature of this coaster is the towering 200 ft drop. I was excited about riding this coaster because it was my first dive coaster. The floorless ride vehicle along with the diving feature adds to the thrill of this ride. Sheikra was impressive when it debuted in 2005 with many new features being added to the dive coaster scene, the major features were the splashdown and Immelmann loop. I would recommend Sheikra to anyone who loves smooth coasters along with exciting drops! If you want to cool off, then I would suggest standing in the splash zone around the splashdown area of the track!

Height – 200 ft (61 m)
Length – 3,188 ft (972 m)
Speed – 70 mph (110 km/h)
Inversions – 1
Duration – 2:20
G-force – 4
Height Restriction – 54 in (137 cm)

Scorpion

Instagram @themeparkslover

One of the saddest looking coasters in the park, you can really see how this coaster has aged. I did not ride Scorpion, but I did watch it cycle. This coaster has a fairly simple track layout and features one inversion. In 2004, Scorpion received a paint job and its colors are similar to Sheikra.

Height – 60.7 ft (18.5 m)
Length – 1,817.6 ft (554.0 m)
Speed – 41 mph (66 km/h)
Inversions – 1
Duration – 1:30
G-force – 3.5
Height Restriction – 42 in (107 cm)
