Tsum Valley, also known as the Hidden Gems and a land of monasteries, is one of the remotest Himalayan Valleys, situated on the northern part of Manaslu, Nepal. The name ‘Tsum’ comes from the Tibetan word ‘Tsombo’, that means vivid. Manaslu with Tsum Valley Trek, a recently opened trail that has gained attraction of many travel lovers. The Tsum Valley region is still less exposed in comparison to other tourist areas with virgin mountains and off the beaten paths. The views of Mt Manaslu (8,156m), the eighth highest mountain in the world, are marvelous and close.

What is the trail like?

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is more remote and spectacular, with rough steep tracks. The trail was opened to foreigners in 1995, as the trail has few trekkers, giving it a peaceful vibe. The trekking to Manaslu begins from the lower side of Arughat and continues the journey to the remote hidden valley Tsum. You will pass through the alpine forest, glacial river and also view a mixture of terraced fields and hill villages. Tsum valley trekking is bounded by high passes Ngula Dhoj Hyang (5093 m.) to the west and Yamdro Pass (5326 m) to the north. The prayer flags, chortens, Mani walls; everything we encounter on our trail during our journey gives a resemblance of Tibetan Buddhist culture. The people in the region have been able to preserve their uniqueness as modernization and commercialization have not touched the purity of environment. The biggest achievement of Tsum valley and Manaslu Trek is a climb up to Larkya La Pass (5220 meters); which is the highest point of our trek. It is a delightful journey that takes you into the majestic surroundings of the Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, Hiunchuli (7,893m) and Boudha Himal ranges. And ascends higher along Budhi Gandaki river through mysterious villages inhabited by Tibetan community. Furthermore, the lifestyle and tradition of the people residing in the valley are unique and traditional. We also visit the ancient Buddhist Gombas of the region including; the Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa  (3,700m) which is the largest Monastery in this region and also visit Milarepa's Cave.

Best Time to Manaslu with Tsum Valley Trek

The best time to travel is between the months of October and December, as they provide the clearest skies. The next best is March to May. Regarding monsoon season at summertime, we do not suggest to try this route from June till August.

Tips for Manaslu with Tsum Valley Trek

Manaslu with Tsum valley trekking is restricted trekking in Nepal. Thus, required special trekking permit through legal Nepal trekking agency and minimum two people participant mandatory. Normally camping trekking is more suitable and comfortable but nowadays tea house/lodge trekking is also available in this area.
