The Neuschwanstein Castle – Straight Out Of A Fairytale

Tags: castle

Yes, as the name suggests, the Neuschwanstein Castle is indeed a fairytale castle. While most castles are known for their rugged features, defensive positions, and aggressive exteriors, this castle is known for its enchanting beauty. This castle is the inspiration behind Disney’s Sleeping Beauty’s castle.

Located in Bavaria near the town of Fussen in Germany, this castle is one of the most visited castles in Germany, proudly holding the position of one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe.

Built in the19th century by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, also known as the “Fairytale King” due to the eccentric and reclusive role he played as a king, the castle did not possess any strategic or defensive characteristics like other traditional castles. The castle was built in a time when there was no more need for castles to serve the purpose of war and this led to the beauty of the structure as the main highlight of the castle. King Ludwig was a great admirer and friend of world-famous composer Richard Wagner and he built the castle in his honor mainly. Many of the rooms in the castle depicted characters from Wagner’s works. The fourth floor of the castle is a tribute to Wagner’s operas with a single hall called the Singers Hall occupying the entire fourth floor and containing various characters from Wagner’s operas.

Literally, Neuschwanstein means “New Swan Castle”, which refers to the “the Swan Knight”, one of Wagner’s characters.

Along with the jaw-dropping beauty of the medieval castle, the castle was also equipped with all the modern facilities available at that time such as toilets on every floor with automatic flush systems, air heating system for the entire castle and so on.

The castle also sports a beautiful inner garden surrounded by a walled courtyard along with an artificial cave. The exteriors were as magnificent as its interiors.

The location of the castle also comes as something straight out of a fairytale. Located in the Alps, the castle is situated on top of a hill on a magnificent landscape that awes every single person visiting the place.

This castle was the inspiration behind Walt Disney’s creation of the Magic Kingdom.

The town of Fussen where the castle is located is also a popular tourist destination.

While millions of people visit this place every year, there are many who don’t know about this magnificent place yet. For all these people, now that you know, make sure to visit this place to witness the jaw-dropping beauty of the castle and the landscape surrounding it.

Living in a world full of tension, turmoil, work pressure, and mental stress, it would be good to witness a short glimpse of the fairyland where nothing but beauty and happiness dwells in every nook and corner.
