USA is at the apex of the pandemic so once again the cover photo is from better times in the USA — beautiful reflections on Picture Lake in Washington State.
Growth Rates
Things have improved over the last few days but is it too early to say there is a downward trend? Do you think the USA will have 100,000 coronavirus deaths as predicted by Dr. Fauci? The growth Rate of new cases in USA has dropped dramatically over the last week by 7.4% to 12.6%. But 12.6% of 187,347 cases is a large number of new cases.
Canada has not improved that much but their work at home policy only started on March 22th so that is only 9 days.
The data comes from Worldometer. The percentages, trends and colour formatting are added by this website. High growth rates over 15% are shown with a pink background. Decreases in the precent growth rate are shown with a green background. Everywhere in the Top 20 has improved, except for France, Brazil and Israel.
Italy is down to 3.8%; UK 12%; Spain 8.3%; Germany 6.9%. The hot spots for new cases are Turkey (20%) and Brazil (19%).
Death Rates
Death rates in the 14 worst countries (except for Iran) have increased significantly. Italy has a horrific 11.7% Death Rate and USA has gone above 2%. This is a reflection of lack of equipment, lack of beds, and lack of medical personnel.
By contrast, Canada has decreased 0.3% to 1.2%. The real death rate is even lower because Canada is economizing on tests and does not test younger Canadians who may have COVID-19 but are told to self-quarantine at home.
Western Europe is the size of Eastern Canada, and is comparable in population to the USA. The West Europen countries in the Top 25 have a total of 425,570 cases with 29,824 deaths or a death rate of 7%!!! We are about half way through to June so 60,000 deaths is to be expected.
