Belief in the Day of Judgment:

One of the most important beliefs in Islam is the belief in the Day of Resurrection. This world is just a testing place for eternal life in the Hereafter. We have been sent to this world to live our lives according to the teachings of Islam as known to us through the Holy Quran and ahadith. Belief in death and in the Hereafter is one of the core principles of Islam.

The Day of Resurrection:

The Holy Quran describes in detail at many places how the Day of Resurrection is going to be like. The concept is central to the faith of Islam. That is why it is given so much importance in the Holy Quran. It is the day when the great trumpet will be blown by Allah’s angel Israfeel. The noise shall be so sharp that it would pierce through the ears. The blast shall be so deafening that it would destroy everything, even the strongest of the mountains shall become like cotton balls. Everything shall be destroyed.

The Day of Resurrection shall bring an end to all sorts of enjoyment and pleasures of this world. In fact, it will be a state of utmost catastrophe and calamity never seen or imagined before. Everyone would be fleeing away from each other fearing they would call for help as everyone would be in distress about one’s own future. The distress shall be so immense that mothers leave their own children and children would not care about their parents. Everyone would be concerned about themselves only. Allah describes this state in the Holy Quran as:

“For each one of them, that Day will have enough preoccupations of his own.” (Quran 80:37)

According to a narration, once Hazrat Aisha (RA) questioned the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) how people will be assembled on the Day of Judgment. He replied that people will be naked at barefooted. She was shocked to know this. She questioned if women shall be in the same state. He replied that it would be no different in the case of women. Hazrat Aisha (RA) asked in amazement if people would not look at each other. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) replied with this Quranic verse. This tells how the shattered state of mind will be on the Day of Judgment.

Life after death:

When people will be assembled on the Day of Judgment, they will be presented with their account of deeds. Their body parts will testify about their deeds be it good or bad. People will be reminded of even the smallest of sins or virtues. Their deeds shall be weighed against each other. Those who spent their lives denying Allah and this day shall be thrown in the blazing fire of Hell. They will be begging for another chance to go back to the world.

But no one would be given any chance on this Day as Allah knows that even if those people are given another chance they will spend their lives the same way as they have been doing. The faces of these people shall be covered with darkness and misery. They will be plunged down deep into depression for they know their dreadful eternal life in the bottomless pit of Hell.

On the other hand, glad tidings are for those who believed in Allah, His divine message and spent their lives according to His will. Those who had been patient in this world even during tests and trials shall have their faces glow with happiness and contentment. They would know that they have pleased their Lord and they will be given blissful life in the Heavens. Allah says in the Holy Quran:

“Some faces, that Day, will be bright – laughing, rejoicing at the good news.” (Quran 80:38-39)

Seek Allah’s mercy in this world:

Therefore, we must spend our lives to seek Allah’s pleasure and mercy. We must pray to Allah that He is Merciful towards us on the Great Day when people will be assembled and questioned about their deeds.
