4 Hajj Things Prohibited in Islam. Things which You don’t have to do on Hajj, There are certain acts that are not allowed during hajj when you are a pilgrim. If done unintentionally or intentionally, these acts come with compensations in order to regain your Hajj rewards. Let’s check out what these acts are.

Hajj is a beautiful journey of love between a believer and Allah Almighty. The believer takes on to this journey of life to please his Lord and purify him from every sin. This expedition is sacred, so is every ritual involved in Hajj. When a pilgrim enters in the state of ihram many Things which You don’t have to do on Hajj. He enters into a vow between him and his Creator, which cannot be broken. It is compulsory to enter in the state of ihram while performing Hajj and Umrah. The person who enters into this state is called “Muhrim.”

4 Hajj Things Prohibited during Hajj

Following are the acts that are forbidden in ihram, and the pilgrim should refrain from doing due to being in Ihram:

Shaving Head

Pilgrims must not shave their heads or any hair on their body. They are not allowed to pluck or remove hair of anyone else, whether he is in ihram or not. The cutting and trimming the nails is also prohibited. This is interpreted by the scholars from the following verse 196 of Surah Al-Baqarah:

“And don’t shave your heads, unless the sacrifice reaches its destination.”

This expiation for this action is a handful of grain to needy or poor.

Using Perfume

Using perfume or applying it on the clothes in not allowed for pilgrims. The perfumes such as amber, cardamom, cloves, camphor and saffron all are forbidden. Even the fragrance of food is also forbidden in ihram. Even if the muhrim is deceased, he must not be applied to any kind of perfume. This has been deduced by the scholars from the following incident.

The Prophet PBUH said regarding a man who got deceased by getting trampled by his camel, “Wash him with water lotus leaves and shroud him in his ahram, and don’t cover his head or perfume with hanoot.”

Hanoot is a mixture of different fragrances that is usually applied on the deceased. The expiation of this action is one sheep.

Intercourse

Intercourse and any form of courtship that would arouse the sexual desire are prohibited. The lustful glance at wife or husband and any non-mahram lady or man is forbidden. Allah SWT orders in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 197:

“The months of Haj are known; those who determined to perform Haj in these months, then there should be no copulation before women, nor any sin or quarrelling with anyone till the time of Haj.”

The expiation of this sin is one sheep, cow or camel depending on the affordability.

Hunting

Hunting is always forbidden in the Harlem area around the Holy Kaabah. However, in the state of ihram hunting at any other place is also prohibited. Rats, snakes, pythons, and scorpions can be killed. If one gets attacked by any wild animal, then killing that animal is also allowed. In Surah Maidah verse 95 Allah SWT orders:

“O Believers! Kill not game while you are in pilgrim apparel. And whoever amongst you kills it intentionally, then, his compensation is giving a like animal from his cattle as judged by two just persons amongst you, this offering reaching to Kaba, or as expiation, feeding of some needy persons or its equivalent in, fasting so that he may taste enormity of his deed.”

These are some of the 4 Hajj Things which You don’t have to do. If a person performed any forbidden act unknowingly or unintentionally, then he must stop doing it right away and must pay the expiation of that sin.
