WHO’S READY TO GO TO ICELAND?
I hope you are because Iceland is welcoming us with open arms!
Iceland made the decision to allow any travelers who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to enter Iceland without testing or being quarantined.
Travelers must provide proof that they have been fully vaccinated with one of these vaccines: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson. Iceland also allows travelers who have had Covid-19 to enter the country without quarantine and testing.
Icelandair announced the long-awaited return to Portland, with seasonal flights scheduled on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Portland International Airport starting July 2. Non-stop service to Iceland will operate through Oct. 31st. Flight time is only 7.5 hours!
I was invited to visit Iceland a few years ago in the month of January. A great time of year to visit without crowds at lower prices. It’s also the best chance of seeing the aurora borealis, aka the northern lights.
The warmest months to visit Iceland is July and August. These months are also the most crowded and the most expensive.
If you want 24 hours of daylight, then choose June for your visit. It’s a little cooler than July and August and not as crowded.
There are several ways we can help you explore the island.
1. Sail on a 8-16 night small expedition cruise.
2. Go on a 7-15 night land tour of the island.
3. Do a self drive tour around the islands and let us take care of all your reservations.
A few highlights that should not be missed:
1. Visit the Blue Lagoon Spa located between the city of Reykjavik and the airport. It’s a wonderful experience with geothermal warm water pools. The restaurant there is fabulous.
2. For us “Game of Throne” fans, be sure and go on a tour to see the amazing scenery where Season 4 was filmed.
3. Don’t miss a chance to ride the adorable Icelandic horses. Although the horses are small, almost pony-sized, Icelander’s called them horses. What makes them special is they have 5 gaits compared to most horses with 3 gaits.
There are a few other countries that are now allowing fully vaccinated US citizens to enter but none are as easy to get to as Iceland.
