How To Get From El Nido To Coron {Coron To El Nido}

Traveling from El Nido To Coron or Coron to El Nido, whichever direction the backpacking trail has you headed in, is an essential trip for anyone visiting the Philippines.

Both Coron and El Nido are considered must visit destinations, therefore at some point during your trip you will be making this journey.

The only big decision is whether to take the El Nido to Coron Ferry or to jump on a quick flight to Coron.

However, in this El Nido to Coron blog, we will show you all the best ways to get to Coron from El Nido and vice versa.

The information listed in this blog is the same for both El Nido To Coron and Coron To El Nido.  Therefore, just be sure to check the ferry times for each because they do differ.

How To Get From El Nido To Coron

There are two options when travelling from El Nido to Coron. You can either take a ferry or a flight, though the majority of people take the ferry.

Option 1: El Nido To Coron Ferry

When taking the El Nido to Coron ferry you can choose between either the fast or the slow ferry.

Slow Ferry From El Nido To Coron and Coron To El Nido

The slow ferry is a massive longtail wooden boat that lacks every bit of comfort possible.  It fits around 80-100 people and during high season can get quite full making the 6 – 8 hour journey that much more uncomfortable.

Not to mention that the sea can get pretty rough depending on the day, which leaves a lot of people feeling seasick.  Which isn’t the best thing when you’re crammed on a wooden boat with around 80 other people.

On the bright side, the slow ferry does serve a meal during the journey.  We were served a classic Filipino dish of chicken, rice and veggies. This was definitely the highlight of my first Coron To El Nido ferry ride.

Pro Tip
During my first trip to The Philippines, we waited too long to book the fast ferry and it sold out. Therefore, we had no other option but to take the slow ferry.

Fast Ferry From El Nido To Coron and Coron To El Nido

Compared to the dreaded slow ferry, the fast ferry is absolute relief. Despite that it is pretty much filled to capacity on every single trip, it is a quite comfortable 3.5 hour journey.

Though most people do still get seasick from the rough waves it is so much better than being aboard the wooden longboat that is the slow ferry if you happen to feel sick.

Not to mention there is decent bathroom, several flat screen tv’s, small snack shop and air conditioning aboard.

Pro Tip
I can’t stress this enough, but the fast ferries to and from El Nido and Coron are known to sell out. As soon as you arrive in either destination I recommend you book your ferry as soon as possible to avoid getting stuck taking the slow ferry.

How Much Is The Ferry From El Nido To Coron and Coron to El Nido?

Slow Ferry – 1300 pesos (approximately $25 USD per person)
Fast Ferry – 1800 pesos (approximately $35 USD per person)

Despite the slow ferry being $10 less, I strongly recommend you book the fast ferry and save yourself the time and the headache of booking the cheaper option.

Just be sure to book it ahead of time otherwise the fast ferry will sell out.
