Khao Sok National Park

Filled with a distinctive beauty that you will not find anywhere else in the country, Khao Sok National Park has quickly become one of the top things to do in Thailand.

Khao Sok is located in Southern Thailand at the neck of the Malay Peninsula.

While its distance from other popular destinations like Bangkok and Phuket make it a little less frequented by other travelers, be sure not to make the same mistake.

Khao Sok National Park is one of the most extraordinary places in Thailand that everyone should include on their bucket list.

Party On Koh Phi Phi

Love it or hate it, Koh Phi Phi knows how to party!

Considered by some to be a paradise for young idiots, party-hungry backpackers from around the world are drawn like moths to a flame toward this island looking to experience what is deemed to be some of the best nightlife in Thailand.

Any backpacker on a mission to rescue their holiday from a quiet night in, to be a menace to their liver with a smorgasbord of alcohol filled buckets, wildly rambunctious beach parties and surround themselves with other hedonistically motivated backpackers that don’t know the meaning of go home, will immediately fall in love with the island of Koh Phi Phi.

Ghost Tower

Sathorn Unique Tower aka Ghost Tower is every bit as much daring and adventurous as it is illegal.

Perched along the Chao Phraya River lies one of the most unique things to do in Bangkok Thailand.

This abandoned skyscraper is a beacon for adrenaline junkies looking for an off the beaten track adventure in Thailand.

However, it didn’t really gain popularity among the backpacking community until the body of a Swedish backpacker was found on the 43rd floor of the skyscraper.

Since this tragic event, Ghost Tower has been deemed off-limits to the public, however, this obstacle has proven to only further entice backpackers to climb it.

Slip N Fly

Touted as one of the most adventurous things to do in Thailand, the Slip N’ Fly is definitely not for the faint of heart.

The main attraction at this park is a water slide that resembles an Olympic Ski Jump hurling some people as high as 30 feet in the air!

This is one of the most exciting things to do in Koh Phangan and one of the most fun things to do in Thailand so be sure not to miss it.

Bonus points to whoever can successfully land a backflip, however, keep in mind a belly flop from this height will do more than just leave a mark.

Hosted once every month on the night of the full moon, this legendary beach party manages to attract around 30,000 partygoers at every single event.

Eden Garden Party

Tucked away along the giant slippery rocks of Haad Yuan Bay is the secret psychedelic all night jam fest called the Eden Garden Party.

Unlike any of the parties you’ll ever experience in Thailand, this is guaranteed to be one of the most distinctive nightlife events of your trip.

Undenounced to most first-time visitors, the Eden Garden Party is held every Saturday night on Haad Yuan bay which is only a short boat ride away from Haad Rin Beach.  If you plan to visit, be prepared for literally anything!

Maya Bay

Located just a 30-minute boat ride away from Phi Phi Don is the illustrious Maya Bay.

Popularized by the backpacker cult classic “The Beach” starring Leanardo Di’Caprio, Maya Bay has become one of the must do things in Thailand.

In fact, May Bay has become so popular that as of late, the Thai Government has ordered a mandatory cease of tourism.

Apparently, as one of the top 10 must-see places in Thailand, the consequential thousands of tourists that frequented Maya Bay each day were negatively impacting the delicate ecosystem and potentially ruining the beach for good.

As far as I know, all tourist traffic to Maya Bay has been shut down indefinitely, so be sure to check and make sure it has been reopened before you attempt to visit to this magical place.

Pileh Lagoon

Just around the corner from the more famous Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon is every bit as impressive, except with a quarter of the tourists.

This pristine swimming inlet is famous for its towering limestone cliffs and turquoise color waters that are absolutely perfect for snorkeling.

If Maya Bay happens to be closed during your trip to Thailand, then be sure to visit Pileh Lagoon which is still one of the best places to see in Thailand.

Khao San Road

Often the first place that backpackers look for accommodation in the massive city of Bangkok is anywhere in the vicinity of Khao San Road.

As the backpacker hub of Bangkok, Khao San Road is always a hive of activity no matter what time of the day.

However, once nightfall comes, Khao San turns into ground zero for every form of hedonism, as backpackers, ex-pats and locals alike come together and join in on the chaos.

Featured as one of the best things to do in Thailand at night, Khao San Road is the epitome of Southeast Asia nightlife.

Order A Bucket

As the quintessential drink of Thailand, a standard bucket is a concoction of ice, 300 ml bottle of alcohol, Thai Red Bull (much stronger than the average Red Bull), and some soda all poured in a sand bucket (like the ones kids play with at the beach.)

The average cost of one of these buckets is about 200 baht (approximately $6 USD). Given how cheap these buckets are, it’s common to order several of them throughout the night.

Not to mention that once you begin sharing them with friends, it’s quite easy to lose track of how many you have actually had…

And as a result, welcome to your first Thai bucket blackout.

Songkran is one of Thailand’s most famous festivals.

April 13th marks the beginning of a traditional Thai New Year, however, the holiday period is extended through the 15th in order to properly celebrate.

As part of the annual celebration, massive water fights ensue throughout the streets of Thailand as everyone joins in on the fun.

Water guns, buckets, and water hoses are used in the celebration, and the goal is to wet as many people as possible!

The biggest Songkran festival is held in Chang Mai where the festival kicks off a day early on the 12th.

While Songkran is especially important to Buddhists, everyone is invited to join in on the massive celebration.

Monkey Beach

A majority of Maya Bay/Pileh Lagoon boat tours will also take you to a primate infested seaside allure known as Monkey Beach.

Visiting the monkeys are obviously one of the best things to do in Thailand, however, do proceed with caution.

Although the monkeys here may first appear like a big ball of cuteness and cuddles, don’t forget that they are indeed wild animals and if threatened they will lash out and attack.

Not to forget the fact that they have a tendency to rob tourists of anything shiny or peculiar… Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Get A Chang-Over

Chang is the official beer of Thailand.  Therefore, any avid party animal is bound to experience one of these unfortunate hangovers, otherwise known as the  “Chang-over” at some point during their Thailand trip.

While your first Chang-over is never fun, chances are it won’t be your last.

Big Buddha

Visiting a Buddha statue is an absolute must do in Thailand.

While there is an almost infinite number of them scattered throughout Thailand, none of them is as iconic as the Big Buddha of Phuket.

While I wouldn’t dare say the Big Buddha is a top 10 thing to do in Thailand, it is in fact the most impressive of all the Buddha statues.

Phi Phi Viewpoint

Irresistibly iconic and undeniably beautiful are just a few ways to describe the Phi Phi Island Viewpoint.

The viewpoint showcases the famous 2-bay view of Phi Phi Don, and is without a doubt one of the best things see in Thailand.

There is no better place in Krabi to spend watching the sunset other than this stunning Thailand Instagram spot.

However, as one of the must-see places in Thailand, be sure to get there early enough to secure a good spot for sunset because it can get quite crowded.

Grand Palace

Featured as one of the top 10 things to see in Thailand, it's almost compulsory that you visit the ravishing Grand Palace of Bangkok.

The Grand Palace was home to the Royal Family for around 150 years and serves as Bangkok’s most prominent spiritual landmark.

Ping Pong Show

Although the name sounds harmless, a Thai Ping Pong Show might just be the most disturbing thing you’ll ever see.

Is it a magic show? Is it shock entertainment?

In fact, it is both of these and at the same time none of these. Some things cannot be explained, they just need to be seen.

The inexplicably raunchy Thai Ping Pong Shows will leave you utterly speechless as you experience the same thing that nightmares are made of.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Bangla Road

Unsurprisingly enough, there is no better place than the debauchery fueled Bangla Road of Phuket to find the absolute best (or “worst") Thai Ping Pong shows along with a slew of other guilty pleasures.

Ranging from promiscuous go-go bars, enormous nightclub venues, hordes of Thai night butterflies among a seemingly endless array of other hedonistic opportunities, Bangla road is considered by some to be the king of party streets in Thailand.

Although I much prefer Khao San Road in Bangkok, there is certainly no denying the tempting hedonistic undertones of Bangla Road, often times luring tourists deeper and deeper down the wild rabbit hole.

Muay Thai Kickboxing

Chances are if you’re backpacking Thailand with some of your buddies, at some point during the trip tensions will rise and arguments will happen.

What better way to settle a dispute and release that built up tension than to step into a ring and just fight it out.

Well now’s your chance!

On Phi Phi Island tourists are allowed to participate in sparring matches with their buddies in a real-life Muay Thai boxing arena!

Drunken contestants enter the ring with whomever they so chose as they go toe to toe in a 3-round Muay Thai kickboxing match.

And the winner gets a free bucket!  Isn’t Thailand just the best?!

This is hands down one of the most fun things to do in Thailand so suit up and get ready to throw down.

Sanctuary Of Truth

Praised as one of the best things to do in Pattaya, The Sanctuary of Truth is a truly remarkable spectacle that you won’t want to miss.

Although often misrepresented as yet another religious or sacred temple, the Sanctuary of Truth is, in fact, one of the few landmarks in Thailand that has absolutely zero religious significance.

Despite the fact, it still remains as one of the best things to see in Thailand.

Railay Beach

Widely regarded by many travelers as the most beautiful beach in all of Asia, Railay Beach is definitely one of the top 10 things to see in Thailand.

The seemingly endless stretch of powdery white perfection accompanied by scattered palm trees and emerald blue waters give Railay Beach an impeccably tropical vibe that should rank it among the top of your Thailand must do list.

Ark Bar

Located on the island of Koh Samui in the party district of Chaweng, Ark Bar is the one stop party destination of the island.

This beachfront resort property offers beautiful contemporary style rooms accompanied by a dangerously entertaining party scene.

Ark Bar hosts an electrifying beach party several nights throughout the week featuring a bass-pumping sound system topped off by breathtaking fire performances that you will not want to miss.

Rent A Scooter

For around 150 – 200 baht per day (approximately $5 USD), you can rent a scooter and go for a ride as you explore some of the most beautiful places in Thailand.

Truthfully there is nothing more exhilarating than hopping on a scooter and going off on your own as you adventure around and experience the breathtaking beauty of Thailand.

Although in some of the more populated cities like Bangkok and Pattaya, renting a scooter is not advised solely because of traffic congestion.

However, on islands like Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, and many others, there is no better way to get around and visit the most spectacular sights of the island.

In general, this is one of the top 10 best things to do in Thailand or any other place in Southeast Asia.

Blanco’s Boat Party

Jump aboard the contagiously wild Blanco’s Boat Party as you set sail to the most popular attractions in the Phi Phi Islands in style.

Enjoy the open bar, good music, exciting drinking games, and unbeatable positive vibes as you spend the day exploring with some new-found drinking buddies.

In my opinion, there is no better way to explore all the best things to do in the Phi Phi Islands other than the famous Blanco’s boat party.

Eat Some Insects

YES, you did indeed read that correctly!

Thailand offers an assortment of insect appetizers that are a common street food snack or found as a topping in some more traditional Thai cuisine.

So, put down that unhealthy bag of chips and go grab a hand full of some freshly fried scorpions or tarantulas to satisfy that snacking urge.

And for all you nutritional conscious backpackers, snacking on insects is considered an excellent source of protein.

Hong Islands

Featured as yet another contender on the extensive list of the most beautiful places to go in Thailand, The Hong Islands are effortlessly one of the country’s best Instagram spots.

This stunning Thailand archipelago is made up of around a total 12 separate islands, however, the vast majority are so small that they don’t even have a beach.

Among the assortment of islands in the archipelago, Koh Hong is the most famous and the prominent attraction on most Hong Island tours.

Renowned for its shimmering turquoise blue translucent waters and remarkably tropical beachfront, this is undoubtedly one the best places to visit in Thailand.

Thai Massage

Famously known for their distinctive massage techniques, this is easily one of the top things to do in Thailand for first-time visitors.

The traditional Thai massage is a full body healing system that targets pressure points combining acupressure, rhythmic compressions and an assortment of yoga postures.

Thai Massage parlors can be found in every destination throughout the country and are very affordable with rates often starting as low as 200 baht (approximately $6 USD,) making this one of the easiest items to get crossed off of your Thailand bucket list.

Ibiza Pool Party

As one of the most anticipated party events on Koh Phi Phi, the Ibiza Pool Party is one of the top party events on the island.

Hosted every Sunday and Wednesday at the Ibiza House Resort, partygoers can take advantage of a vibrant social scene filled with convivial travelers from all around the world.

With a diverse crowd of backpackers, cheap alcohol, great music, and a beautiful seaside pool area, what more could you possibly ask for?
