Things to Do in Queensland, Australia, to Add to Your Next Trip

Introduction

Australia has plenty of things to do in Queensland to offer tourists. It’s got beautiful beaches, incredible forests, and stunning wildlife. There are many great national parks and nature reserves too! Here is a list of some things to do in Queensland while you’re visiting:

View the Great Barrier Reef

There are many things to do in Queensland, Australia. One of the best is to go and see the Great Barrier Reef. This is because it’s the largest coral reef in the world and home to many different types of marine life. It’s also a great place to go for a swim! Many other boats take people out to see the reef.

Explore Fraser Island

Fraser Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it’s easy to see why. It’s the largest sand island in the world! The island is home to many rare and endangered species, including dingoes, koalas and freshwater crocodiles.

If you’re looking for more than just beaches on your visit to Fraser Island—like wildlife—we recommend taking a day trip with Dion Richardson Adventures that will take you off-road through forested areas where you might spot birds or maybe even some echidnas.

In addition to these nature walks, there are plenty of other activities: horseback riding through rainforests or on white sandy beaches; abseiling down limestone cliffs into crystal clear waterfalls; camping; swimming at Sandy Beach or Lake McKenzie (the only lake on an Australian mainland).

If you want to stay longer than one day? We’ve got plenty of accommodation options, from homestays with local families through Airbnb rentals to luxury beachfront hotels!

Enjoy Kirra Beach

Kirra Beach is a popular destination for surfing, and Kirra Beach accommodation is known for being one of the best things to do in Queensland. If you’re not into surfing, there are other things to do at Kirra Beach.

You can swim in the ocean, play volleyball and fish. There are also cafes and restaurants in the area if you want to grab some food after your surfing session or need a break from the sun.

When you’re done enjoying the beach, it’s also a great place to watch sunsets over Burleigh Heads—it’s one of my favourite things about living here!

Visit Cape Tribulation

  • Visit Cape Tribulation. This small town in north Queensland is home to a spectacular rainforest, which makes it an excellent place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Australia. There are many attractions in this area, including several beaches and waterfalls.
  • Go snorkelling at Whitehaven Beach and Ribbon Reefs National Park. Although these two locations are on the Great Barrier Reef, they are very different: Whitehaven Beach is a rocky beach without much sand; Ribbon Reefs has many colourful corals but no surf; both have beautiful waters for snorkelling or scuba diving.

Visit Cairns

Cairns is a great place to visit. It has a lot of attractions and things to do in Queensland. Travelling by plane is easy because of the Cairns airport shuttle. If you like swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, or surfing, you will love it here as the weather is tropical with warm waters all year round.

The city also has rainforests, so if you want some more nature on your trip, this is the place for you!

Go Whale Watching in Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay is a great place to go whale watching. The whales are often seen in the warmer months of the year, between July and October, as they migrate from their winter feeding grounds to warmer waters. The best time for sighting them is during the morning and afternoon hours from June through October.

Many tour operators are offering whale-watching tours of Hervey Bay. These tours take you out on a boat close to shore, where you have the best chance at getting close-up views of these magnificent creatures.

Explore Munga-Thirri National Park

With its sandstone cliffs, deep gorges and rugged plateaus, the Munga-Thirri National Park is a true wilderness. It is one of the excellent things to do in Queensland. The park also has a very high level of biodiversity.

There are rare and endangered species, such as the Australian ringtail possum, superb lyrebird and koala. The park was established in 1932 by the QLD government to protect these animals from extinction.

If you’re visiting during the springtime (June to August), bring your binoculars to watch birds migrating through this area on their way south for winter!

Visit Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is a town in Queensland, Australia. It’s located on the country’s eastern side, right on the water. You can travel from anywhere, including Proserpine to Airlie Beach. It’s known for its beautiful beaches and tourism industry, so it’s a popular destination for backpackers looking to spend their time relaxing in the sun or exploring some nature trails. There are tons of things to do in Airlie Beach—here are just some examples:

Dive the Yongala wreck

The Yongala is a shipwreck located off the coast of Townsville, Queensland. The steamship transported passengers between Townsville and Cairns when it sank in 1911.

The wreck is the second-largest shipwreck in Australia and a popular diving site for novice and advanced divers. The Yongala has been designated as an official marine park, which means that all divers must follow strict guidelines while exploring its depths.

Spend some time in the town of 1770

The town of 1770 is a great place to visit. It has a lot of history and many activities for visitors. The city is surrounded by beautiful beaches, rainforests and wildlife, such as koalas and kangaroos.

Birdwatch on Heron Island

The Great Barrier Reef is bound to blow your mind if you’re a nature lover. But did you know there’s another must-see place just off the coast? Heron Island is a coral cay and one of Australia’s most popular spots for birdwatching. What makes it so unique? There are over 240 species of birds on this island!

The most common birds are the Red-tailed Tropicbird, White-bellied Sea Eagle, and Masked Booby. If you’re not interested in birding but still want a taste of what Heron Island offers, then maybe consider taking advantage of its luxurious accommodations.

If you’d instead get right into it with some serious hiking or snorkelling (and perhaps even whale watching), then head straight for Daydream Island Resort & Spa rather—just be sure not to forget your camera!

Conclusion

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading this guide to what are the things to do in Queensland, Australia. If you are visiting the area, there are many things to do and see. You can explore Fraser Island and its natural beauty, go hiking or cycling on Heron Island, or even dive into the beautiful waters near Airlie Beach.
