Andaman Is a haven of birds?

2. Andaman Woodpecker

The Andaman Woodpecker falls in the family of Picidae Woodpecker. The scientific name of Andaman Woodpecker is Dryocopus Hodges. It is mainly seen in lowland forests in tropical moist areas. The absence of white belly and the presence of slate-colored plumage in abundance differs the white-bellied Woodpecker from Andaman Woodpecker. Even though they live in pairs they seem to associate in flocks. Due to deforestation, these species have entered the list of endangered species. It has been reported by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

3. Andaman Masked Owl

          The Andaman Masked Owl is mainly seen in the southern Andaman Islands. It is widely seen in forests, grasslands, coastal plains, and also in human settlement areas. The Andaman Masked Owl is scientifically baptized as Tyto Deroepstorffi. The sound of the Owl is short but high-pitched and it is repeated many times. It consumes on mice, small rodents and rats. It is a nocturnal bird and is widely seen from dusk onwards.

4. Brown Coucal

The Brown Coucal or Andaman Coucal belongs to the family of a non-parasite Cuckoo. It is mainly seen in Table Islands, Coco and also in Andaman. They reside in thickly populated emerald gardens, paddy fields, mangroves, and forest areas. It is scientifically called as Centropus Andamanensis. The song of the Brown Coucal is melodious are deep consisting of hoop notes. They mainly consume insects, frogs, lizards, and crabs.

5. Andaman Crake

    The Andaman Crake is widely seen in the Islands of Andaman. Rallina Canningi is the scientific name of Andaman Crake. Their voice is like a deep croak. They reside in tropical marshlands, tropical mangrove forests, and rainforests and so on. It consumes mollusks, insects (like Grasshoppers, Beetles, Caterpillars), worms and small fishes.

6. Nicobar Megapode

The Nicobar Megapode is also known as Nicobar Scrubfowl is found mainly in the Nicobar Islands and also in some parts of Andaman Island. There has been a large reduction in the number of Nicobar Megapode after the Tsunami took place in 2004. They are scientifically called as Megapodius Nicobariensis. They are well-known for their unique nature they hide in thick jungles during day time and appear in evenings. They are always seen in groups or in pairs.
