Jack Johnson’s song, ‘Slow down everyone, you’re moving too fast,’ may not be the traditional lyrics for a Christmas Carol, but Santa agrees that Christmas at the beach is certainly the season to slow down. If you are fortunate enough to have booked one of Prince’s Grant’s rentals over the Festive season, then we suggest you take Santa and Jack Johnson’s advice and slow down a little. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t last minute Christmas Shopping to do. We have a couple of suggestions to help you kill two birds with one stone – shopping and relaxing at the same time. The Litchi Orchard

There is something nostalgic about visiting a working farm. The Litchi Orchard, at Salt Rock, is the perfect spot to slow down among 100 year old litchi trees. Here you get two-for-one. Firstly, there is the Maker’s Market, which will be held on the second Saturday of December. You really don’t have to rush, as it opens from 09h00 to 13h00. That means you only need to get the family and the dog in the car by 08h30 for the 30 minute coastal drive from your Prince’s Grant rental. (Dogs on a leash are welcome at the Litchi Orchard.) As you wander from stall to stall, while enjoying live music, the vision of the market is obvious – to grow and support small, local entrepreneurs. From ‘butcher’s to bakers to candlestick-makers,’ you will also find, potters, basket weavers and wirecrafters, jewellers, clothing designers and an abundance of food stalls. Secondly, there is Orchard Nights to be held on the 21st and 28th December 2018. This is the perfect opportunity to banish pre-Christmas and post-Christmas blues. An evening spent wandering under twinkling Christmas lights, listening to Christmas Carols and unplugged bands, is a wonderful respite from the festive rush. As you celebrate local talent and creativity with food, décor and design, this is likely to be the highlight of your holiday while at Prince’s Grant.

Blythedale Adventure Market

The Litchi Orchard covers a Saturday and a couple of Friday evenings in December. But what about Sundays? It will be worth your time to take a Sunday drive to the Blythedale Adventure Market, 16km away. What could be more idyllic than a market on the beach? Every Sunday, from 10h00 – 16h00, there is something for the whole family. For kids of all ages, there is adventure galore – a gigantic slippery slide, quad biking and a petting zoo. There is also a Kidzone with childminders. For moms, dads and grandparents, there are wonderful stalls to browse, offering fresh local produce and artisanal food. Local music artists perform live while you sit down with a picnic sourced from the food trucks and vendors.
