Barce-lonely

BCN, Spain | The moment I walked on those Vibrant streets of Barcelona, I was lonely no more. The weight of history—a bloody past between PH and Spain forged over 333 years of colonization,  echoes of the past intertwined with the vibrant rhythms of the present—accompanied me. As a Filipino, Spain has held a special significance in my being, an inherent connection in history that created a strong bond through shared experiences and exchange of cultural influences, from the unwavering faith to the gastronomic delights that melded our cultures together.

Well enough, Barcelona welcomed me with open arms; embraced me like a long-lost friend, despite it being my first time. Walking through its enchanting streets, I found myself in awe of its architectural wonders. The city effortlessly pulsates with a harmonious blend of timeless customs and contemporary charm. Leading the pack are Antoni Gaudí's works showcased in a seamless fusion of Gothic and Art Nouveau influences transcending time. At every turn, Gaudí's legacy revealed itself, woven into the fabric of the city, from the whimsical curves of Casa Batlló to the mosaic masterpiece of Park Güell, which embody the city's spirit of innovation, artistic expression, and architectural ingenuity.

Then, I finally laid eyes upon the magnificent Sagrada Familia—an architectural marvel, a symbol of dreams realized. Its spires reaching towards the heavens, its intricate facades whispered stories of faith, collectively evoking a sense of reverence and wonder. Standing beneath its towering columns, I felt an overwhelming gratitude for the for the opportunity to be present at that moment, somehow putting into reality the dreams of many Filipino catholics who long for this very same experience. This architectural masterpiece has been under construction for over a century with no definitive completion date in sight. Yet, despite the passage of time and numerous challenges its construction continues, proving that greatness takes time and effort, and that success is not measured by the destination but by the journey itself. There is beauty in the process, and through perseverance, something extraordinary could be born.

After this trip, I carried with me a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the power of dreaming and doing something about it; a motivational kick I badly need these days. Barcelona had reminded me that I am still part of that larger food chain, still capable of bringing in a unique perspective, and still contributing to the vibrant mosaic of life. Barcelona's spirit echoed through me and urged me to celebrate the connections that shaped our collective journey.
