Pushkar Camel Fair: Essential Festival Guide

Pushkar Camel Fair is a unique celebration of camels along with other cattle. More than 2 lakh people participate in this fair. Camel races are the main attraction along with other art exhibition and cultural performances. Pushkar Fair will be held at Pushkar, which is located 10 km away from Ajmer, Rajasthan.

This festival will make you feel excited with the group of people in colourful dresses, camels and cattle dressed with bejewelled with embellishments. It will be celebrated at the edge of the Thar Desert.

Pilgrims used to take a holy dip in the Pushkar Lake and offer prayers to the Lord Brahma. For the spiritual rituals, 2 full moon days are considered as highly auspicious.

Major Attractions at the Pushkar Fair

Camels are the major attraction in Pushkar Fair, which are decorated with jewellery and colourful saddles. Most of the celebrations and activities happen at the intersection of National Highway 89 and Brahma Temple Road. Camels are an integral part of Rajasthan’s livelihood. This Fair includes the unique practices for promoting the virility of animals like camel parades, shaving camels, beauty pageants and camel dances.

Pushkar is a unique camel show which makes the coexistence between the animal and man. This fair attracts the people from the surrounding towns and villages by the carnival of celebrations conducted at the fairgrounds.
