6 Ways to Become a More Eco-friendly Driver

When you are traveling it is important that you are driving in an eco-friendly way. A car is not the most energy efficient way to travel but if you want to drive to your destination, there are some things that you can do to make the trip more eco-friendly. To help you with this, we have put together some tips so keep reading if you’d like to find out more.

1. Inflate Your Tires.

Did you know that when your tires are properly inflated, they are actually a lot safer? On top of this, they will improve your Gas Mileage by more than 3%. Having a better gas mileage is much better for the environment so make sure to check the recommended tire pressure.

2. Replace Your Air Filters.

To keep your engine healthy and improve how environmentally friendly your driving is, you should try to replace your performance air filters often. These can get easily clogged up and you will find that they newer filters can actually improve the mileage in your car by as much as 10%.

3. Don’t Idle.

If your car has a big engine, you should think carefully about the time that you spend idling. The longer you do, the more you are negatively affecting your miles per gallon and so this is something which you should try to avoid.

4. Don’t Travel During Rush Hour.

Although this sounds almost impossible if you work a traditional 9-5, if you want to drive in a more eco-friendly way, you should think about avoiding rush hour traffic. Driving at times where the roads are clearer mean that you won’t be spending a lot of time sitting in traffic, causing your car to use more fuel. Try to plan your routes carefully and only drive through rush hour traffic if you have no choice.

5. Clean Out Your Car.

If you have a lot of things in your car then you should think about giving it a clear out. The heavier your car is, the more fuel you will use, causing your carbon footprint to increase. Try to clean out your car once a week to avoid overloading it with things that you don’t need to have with you at all times.

6. Avoid Speeding.

Our last tip for those who want to improve the way that they drive to help the environment is to avoid excessive speeding. You’ll find that as you get faster, your gas mileage starts to decline very quickly and so you will be using a lot more of it. You should know that after 60mph you will start to see a huge decline in this so make sure to think about this carefully.

When you want to make improvements to how you live your life in terms of being eco-friendly, you don’t need to give up driving. As long as you are willing to make some of the small changes that we have detailed in this article, you should be able to go on that big road trip with a clear conscience.
