El Cielo Cozumel: Heaven on Earth

“On earth there is no heaven, but there are pieces of it.” – Jules Renard

Looking for heaven on earth? We’ve got just the place, a perfect little piece of paradise that you’ve got to see to believe. Words and photos simply cannot convey the magic, they can only give you a small taste of the beauty of our secret little corner of the world. Where is this Eden you ask? Heaven is the answer, El Cielo Cozumel.

Most folks know about Cozumel, the world-famous scuba diving destination that has become a major cruise ship port welcoming millions of visitors each year. Cozumel is the largest inhabited island in Mexico, located in the Mexican Caribbean Sea and accessible by ferry from the mainland city of Playa del Carmen. One may think that with so many visitors that it must be “cheesy and touristy”, but the truth is that Cozumel is still mostly undeveloped and offers incredible natural experiences.

The main attraction of Cozumel is, of course, the sea. The water is crystalline with incredible visibility and the reefs are rich in sea life. Water temps are always inviting for a dive or a swim and the tropical climate makes Cozumel a great destination for water lovers all year round.

Our favorite little corner of Cozumel is most definitely “El Cielo”, meaning “Heaven” in Spanish. Only accessible by boat and to certified tour guides, El Cielo is located at the far southern end of the island, close to the Columbia Reef. The water is extremely shallow, generally about waist-deep and it is a great place to just float away the day with a cold drink in hand.

The spot is named “El Cielo” not only because it looks like paradise but for the number of starfish that dot the soft white sand in the shallow waters, like a sky full of stars! With your snorkel mask and fins you’ll be immersed in their underwater world for a Cozumel day trip like no other. Keep an eye out for the spectacular stingrays that seem to fly through the water too, get those underwater cameras ready! The clarity of the shallow waters mean your photos will be absolutely amazing and you’ll be the envy of all your friends.

This is the true meaning of ESCAPE, no phones, no lights, no motor cars but a whole lot of natural luxuries. Disconnect from stress and reconnect with yourself, the planet and “heaven” at El Cielo, Cozumel.
