Our camaraderie with alcohol is a potent bond of euphoria, companionship and sometimes, regret. But the joy shared during celebrations takes the form of a drink. In short, we love a good drink! The beginnings of a connection sometimes begin over a drink. Our bond with alcohol switches between gin and vodka martini (Get the reference?). Furthermore, the month of June dedicates one day for our Gin Craze that originates from Great Britain. June 13th was celebrated as World Gin Day. We are late to address the event but any occasion to appreciate this celebrated drink must not be overlooked. Hence, we thought of ending this week to Gin with our this list of the best gin cocktails made at home!

Gin has become an increasingly popular drink amongst the youth of India. One cannot deny its refreshing and rich botanical flavours that makes it quite appealing to drinkers. Our created Gin out of something called jenever which was made from juniper berries. Moreover, The 17th century was the time Gin became so popular in London that the period was termed as “Gin Craze” and received legislative backlash. World Gin Day began in 2009 and Neil Houston launched it.

Best Homemade Recipes Of Great Cocktails With Gin

Keeping in mind the lockdown measures, we believe that the best way to celebrate World Gin Day is to make quick and easy gin cocktails to sip on while relaxing. Honestly, with all the stress going on around, a little private gin celebration wouldn’t hurt.

Gimlet (Indian)

  • Takes 5 minutes 
  • Easy 
  • Serves 1

Here’s an Indian twist to the classic Gimlet cocktail.

Ingredients : 

  • A small pinch and a sprig of dill to serve 
  • 1 lime wedge 
  • 50 ml of London’s dry gin
  • 50 ml of Lime Juice Cordial 
  • 2 dashes of celery bitters 
  • Ice

Method : 

Before making this gin cocktail, chill the Glass with some ice and add a dash of soda to quicken the process. Then, put a pinch of dill, a squeezed lime wedge, the gin and the lime cordial into the shaker bottle. Add ice to the shaker, cap it and shake hard. You have to chill the drink quickly and water it down to the minimum. Furthermore, empty the ice and any liquid from the serving glass. Fine-strain the liquid from the shaker into the glass. 

Finally, garnish the drink with a small fresh sprig of dill. 

Bramble Gin Cocktail

Dick Bradsell created this short and fragrant cocktail in the 80s. One that has now become a modern classic and a great cocktail at that. 

Ingredients : 

  • 50 ml of London dry gin
  • 25 ml of Lemon Juice 
  • 12.5 ml of Sugar Syrup 
  • 12.5 ml of Crème de mure (Blackberry Liqueur) 
  • Lemon wedge to serve (optional)
  • Blackberries to serve 
  • Ice

Method : 

To make this gin cocktail, add the gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup along with ice into the shaker. Cap it and shake hard. Fill a glass with crushed ice. Moreover, strain the liquid from the shaker into the glass. Drizzle crème de mure through the drink over the ice. Then, garnish with a lemon wedge or blackberries depending on your taste. And have a sip!

Negroni 

  • Takes 5 minutes 
  • Easy 
  • Serves 1

Negroni is a classic Gin Cocktail originating from Italy. Its punchy taste is what makes it so special. 

Ingredients : 

  • 25 ml of Campari 
  • 25ml of Beefeater gin
  • 25 ml of Martini Rosso (Vermouth) 
  • 1 peeled orange for garnish 
  • Ice

Method : 

Start this gin cocktail by putting ice on rocks in a glass or a tumbler (whichever you prefer). Then, pour the designated amount of Campari, gin and the vermouth into the glass/tumbler. Finally, garnish with the peeled orange and take a sip.

Sake Martini

Swap vermouth with sake for a Japanese twist to the classic Gin martini. 

Ingredients : 

  • 50 ml of Gin
  • 50 ml of Sake 
  • Lemon peel 
  • Ice

Method : 

Start making this great cocktail by adding gin and sake to the shaker along with the ice. Cap it and shake hard. Further on, strain the liquid into a martini glass. Garnish with the lemon peel and bottoms up! 

Classic Gin Martini

The classic Gin Martini is the most popular of the gin cocktails. Simple yet elegant. 

Ingredients : 

  • 50 ml of Gin
  • 10 ml of Dry Vermouth 
  • 3 Green Olives 
  • Ice 

Method : 

For Shaken Martini. 

Add the gin and dry vermouth into a cocktail shaker. Then, add ice to the martini glass to chill. Add a dash of soda to quicken the process. Empty out the ice from the martini glass and add skewered olives in it.

Finally, strain the liquid from the shaker into the glass. Enjoy your classy drink. 

For a Stirred Martini.

To make this version, add ice to a martini glass to chill. And empty it once chilled. Furthermore, add dry vermouth to the glass. Gently swirl it so it becomes the inner coating of the glass. Then, discard the dry vermouth, however, this is optional. Pour gin into the martini glass and stir gently. 

In the end, add skewered olives in it and take a sip.

Gentian white lady cocktail 

  • Takes 5 minutes 
  • Easy 
  • Serves 1 

This is an elegant gin cocktail recipe laced with Portobello gin and violet Liqueur. 

Ingredients : 

  • 25 ml of Lime Juice 
  • 50 ml of Portobello Gin 
  • 20 ml of Sugar Syrup
  • 20 ml of Egg white 
  • 10 ml of Violet Liqueur
  • Flower petals to serve 

Method : 

Add the lime juice, gin, sugar syrup, egg white and violet liqueur and shake well to froth the egg white. Then, fine strain the liquid into a glass and add a flower petal on top for garnish. Tada, it’s done.

Roku Sonic 

  • Takes 5 minutes 
  • Easy
  • Serves 1 

Here’s another Japanese-inspired gin cocktail for gin aficionados. The gin used is Roku from Japan. 

Ingredients : 

  • 30 ml of Roku 
  • 120 ml of Tonic water 
  • Ginger sticks for garnish
  • Ice 

Method :

To make this great cocktail, add cubes of ice into a highball glass. Then, add Roku and Tonic water into a glass and build. Finally, add ginger sticks for garnish as per your preference and enjoy the drink. 

A Clementine Cocktail 

  • Takes 5 minutes 
  • Easy 
  • Serves 1 

Have a taste of this fruity gin cocktail with a sweet and sour combination. 

Ingredients : 

  • 25 ml of Dry Gin
  • 1 tsp of crème de cassis 
  • 2 juiced clementine 
  • Ice 

Method : 

Start by pouring ice cubes into the glass. Further on, pour the gin and the crème de cassis over the ice. Then, pour the squeezed clementine and stir anti-clockwise. And drink up!

English Garden Cocktail 

  • Takes 5 minutes 
  • Easy 
  • Serves 1

This refreshing summer cocktail originating from Britain would definitely make your day. 

Ingredients : 

  • 50 ml of Gin 
  • 25ml of St. Germain elderflower liqueur 
  • 75ml of non-concentrated apple juice
  • 10 ml of Lime Juice 
  • Cucumber ribbons to serve 

Method : 

Add gin, liqueur, and the juices into the shaker and shake well. Pour ice into a tall glass and strain the liquid from the shaker into the glass. Lastly, decorate the glass with cucumber ribbons. Way you go!

Southside 

  • Takes 5 minutes 
  • Easy
  • Serves 1 

This is also known as a gin-styled mojito. 

Ingredients : 

  • 50 ml of Gin
  • 20ml of lime 
  • 15 ml of Sugar syrup
  • 6-8 mint leaves (leave one for garnish)

Method : 

Add gin, lime, sugar syrup and mint leaves into the shaker. And shake well. Moreover, fine-strain the liquid into a chilled martini glass and hold the ice. 

Finally, garnish the martini with one slapped mint leaf. 

Here are some of tips you can keep in mind while making cocktails :

  1. The trick to a good cocktail is to balance the sweet and the sour/bitter. Overpowering one of them can ruin the drink.
  2. If you like the recipe with ice, then make sure to fill the glass up with the stuff. 
  3. Make sure your garnish is fresh. 
  4. Keep in mind the three stages of drinking a cocktail, we always gauge it with our eyes, smell the drink and then, finally take a sip. Moreover, so make sure these elements are aligned: aesthetic, smell and taste.
