Family Friendly Flower Festivals

Spring is in the air and there is no greater joy than seeing the colours of blooming flowers brighten up your day. All around the country Aussies are getting ready to celebrate the picturesque change of season with flower festivals. So if you’re in need of a family getaway, check out the below to see some of the best blossoms of spring.

Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers (15-24 September)

Held over 10 days in the beautiful city of Toowoomba, the Carnival of Flowers is the ultimate celebration of Australian flora. With wine tasting, live music and activities for the whole family, this event should be pencilled into the calendar already. If it’s not, chuck it in! Every day there is a different event, including the iconic Grand Central Floral Parade, where hundreds of dancers and floats glide down the streets in front of a swelling crowd well into the thousands!
 

Tesselaar Tulip Festival, Silvan (14 September – 10 October)

Who doesn’t love a beautiful tulip? Well from mid-September you can get your fix as the town of Silvan in the Dandenong Ranges plays home to the Tesselaar Tulip Festival! With over half a million tulips in 130 varieties and in every colour of the rainbow, flower fans will not be disappointed by the colourful display. Beginning in 1954, the Tesselaar Tulip Festival is now a tradition for many, with visitors coming for not only the tulips, but also the food trucks, market stalls and live entertainment.
 

Kings Park Festival, Perth (1-30 September)

You might walk across this park every day, but during the month of September it becomes much more than just your lunch break destination. Kings Park in Perth comes to life with the newly blossomed wildflowers, creating a sea of colours that welcomes spring with open arms. Experts are on hand to answer any questions you may have about your own horticultural desires and you can’t go past the live bands that play every week!
 

Renmark Rose Festival (20-29 October)

Roses are red, winter is through, the Renmark Rose Festival is here to celebrate spring time with you! Along the Murray River is the beautiful town of Renmark, and you’ll soon realise nobody knows how to celebrate the flowering of roses better than these guys. The festival highlights the different types of roses over 27 acres of open gardens and displays. If you’re a fan of roses, or flowers in general, you’ve gotta visit!
