Driving Adventures in Auckland

Thinking about a short break away? Planning on jumping in the car and driving to majestic Auckland? Well lucky you, because we’ve compiled a few things for you to discover while you’re there! Need a base? Set up at one of these accommodation options located conveniently in and around Auckland CBD. And before you head off, check out the essentials for any road trip!

Sky Tower

Standing at an impressive 328m from ground level, it’s hard to miss the iconic Sky Tower right in the heart of the city! Scale your way up New Zealand’s tallest man-made structure and prepare to take in the magnificent 360 degree view of the entire city and surrounding landscape. With views up to 80km away, it’s the perfect vantage point to spot all of Auckland in one place, including historic landmarks and volcanoes in the distance. For those daring enough, take the opportunity to base-jump from the tower and fall 192m down!

Waitakere Ranges

Only a short drive from the city, the Waitakere Ranges are home to walking trails, waterfalls and beaches, making it the ultimate destination for those who love the outdoors. With over 250km of different trails that will take you through the forest or along the shore, it’s a great way to spend the day exploring and embracing nature. Enjoy surfing? The Waitakere Ranges are also home to stunning black sand beaches that have ripper waves – Head down to Karekare, Piha, Bethlls and Whatipu to see for yourself!

Eat

There are so many dining options in Auckland but we have one that you can’t afford to look past! With its Japanese and Peruvian fusion dishes, Azabu is the definition of trending. From their delicate sushi plates to their generous servings of Tiger prawns, it’s definitely a hot spot for those who love sea food with a unique twist.

TRY: For dessert, the Charcoal Black Meringue – with sake poached nashi pear, yuzu ice cream and miso caramel walnuts.

Drink

If you’re heading out on the weekend, make sure you stop off at Neck of the Woods. This funky bar serves a wide selection of authentic New Zealand craft beer, plus a slew of original cocktails. The best thing about this place? The local rock bands that put on a show here every week. Live music, delicious drinks and a great atmosphere – What more do you need?

Sport

It wouldn’t be a trip to Auckland without catching a rugby game at the iconic Eden Park! Super Rugby kicks off in February and runs through until August, but keep an eye out for international games featuring the world’s best – the All Blacks!
