Yes, we have our own Mini Switzerland right here in India, for those who are fond of living near to nature and its magical touches, Himachal is Heaven.
Khajjar is located some 20-25 km from Dalhousie. It takes about 1.5- 2 hours to reach there from Dalhousie. Khajjar is a part of Kalatop Sanctuary. Surrounded by Thick Tall Deodar Trees fringes and Mountains, Khajjar is called as Mini Switzerland of India, because of its scenic view exactly like Switzerland, with a circumference of about
5 kms with 1960 m. A temple built at 12th Century, is also a main attraction of Khajjar.
How to Reach there-
Getting via personal Cab/ Vehicle is the most feasible way to reach Khajjar.
When to visit Khajjar-
September to June is the best time to get there to enjoy your mornings till late evening at Khajjar.
Weather is moderate, pleasant during days from April to September, cold from October to March. Nights are always very cold.
Numerous Local Food stalls and hotels & restaurants are available. Food is really delicious a whole Himachal Pradesh. Enjoy Maggie noodles, as there are several stalls are designed to provide Instant Maggie noodles to satisfy your hunger swings.
Things to do-
For some adventure seekers, get yourself into this beautiful balloon and get yourself Upside- down & have some great fun. For just Rs. 200/- bucks, the deal is worth it.
2. Kalatop Sanctuary-
Some of the rare species of the birds & fauna can be seen here. Give it a try.
Just do nothing! Sit under a tree and watch out the people & enjoy the beauty in leisure. Enjoy drink from any local Tea / Coffee/ Mock-tail stall. The place is big enough. Thousands of people come here on daily basis to immerse in the beauty of the place.
Short tandem Paragliding is available at Khajjar. I have seen kids enjoying it. Not ideal for adults.
Horsing is a must try. As it takes you to the inside of Kalatop Sanctuary and you can closely enjoy the natural scenic beauty with Horsing. For Rs. 350- 400/- bucks, the deal is a good grab.
What to pack-
A light weight jacket/ pashmina shawl/ stole is must to carry if you are visiting from April to September.
However, if you planning to visit Himachal during winters to catch some snow, make sure you are packing heavy woolens and shocks according to weather. Comfortable shoes/flats/sandals are recommended as roads are steep and ground is big enough to make you walk for more than 5 km as a whole.
Ideally 4-6 hours are required to spend to immerse in the aura of Khajjar; whether you are up for some adventure or to spend some Leisure ” Me time”, Khajjar has to offer it all at its place.
