Everything to Know About the Weather in the Caribbean Paradise of St. Barth

St. Barth is known for its abundant sunshine and warm temperatures year-round, with just the perfect cooling touch from gentle Northeast winds — perhaps the most idyllic conditions imaginable. It’s no wonder that this dreamy weather is one of the island’s most sought-after qualities, calling visitors from around the globe to its crystal-clear shores nearly every month of the year.

Look a bit closer, and you’ll discover that each season offers its own distinctive experience when it comes to weather, characterized by varying water temperatures and precipitation, which are to thank for the island’s verdant landscapes.

Whether you’re already packing your bags or just planning your visit to Rosewood Le Guanahani St Barth when we reopen in spring 2021, here’s what to expect from the St. Barth Caribbean weather.

St. Barth High Season: December, January, February, and March

St. Barth weather in December offers up some of the island’s most sun-soaked days and warm island nights, which are not to be disregarded. Following the rainy season in the Caribbean, the island’s lush greenery is more vibrant than ever, as is the social scene.

A sun-bathed December kicks off the St. Barth high season, and it’s no wonder that parties are aplenty and rosé flows freely: With an average temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit and a water temperature of 83.3 degrees, there’s no better destination for a holiday season escape. And while 3.7 inches of precipitation is typical, afternoon showers here are short-lived and provide the perfect excuse for a powernap, clearing just in time for dinner reservations.

The weather that January brings is equally as comfortable, with an average temperature of 84 degrees, water temperature of 81.9 degrees, and precipitation of 2.6 inches — February remains nearly the same in temperatures, with the added bonus of being one of our driest months (with just 1.77 inches of precipitation). St. Barth weather in March is steady as well, with an average temperature of 84 degrees, water temperature of 81.9 degrees, and 2.17 inches of precipitation.

During a high-season visit, guests can anticipate ideal 80-something degree temperatures, lower humidity, the occasional afternoon rainfall or cloudy day (as with most tropical destinations year-round), and a lively array of events and people-watching opportunities.

St. Barth Shoulder Season: April and May

For a more laid-back experience on St. Barth, those in the know visit as soon as the months of April and May rear their heads on the calendar, when crowds have quieted down and the weather remains primed for sunbathing and exploring.

In April, the days begin to warm up with an average high temperature of 86 degrees, water temperature of 83.1 degrees, and an average of 2.6 inches of precipitation. The weather in St. Barth in May continues the trend, with an average high temperature of 88 degrees, water temperature of 83.8 degrees, and an average of 2.6 inches of precipitation.

Generally, you can expect a visit in shoulder season to be slightly warmer, yet still comfortable, than in high season — all the more reason to go for a dip in the crystal-clear Caribbean waters or soak in sea breezes on a sunset catamaran excursion. As with the rest of the year, a cloudy day or rainy afternoon, also fondly known as liquid sunshine, isn’t uncommon – but is unlikely to stick around long. In fact, in their experience, Le Guanahani team members say April and May are the driest months of the year!

Summer in St. Barth: June, July, August

While June 1sttechnically marks the beginning of hurricane season, you may be surprised to hear one of the island’s best-kept secrets: June is still one of the best months to visit St. Barth! Mid-year getaways should in no way be written off. “In general, June can be one of the most beautiful months, with calm waters and very comfortable temperatures,” says Managing Director Martein van Wagenberg.

Like many places around the world, summer is the warmest season in St. Barth, with temperatures in July, and August averaging 90 degrees. But don’t let the heat discourage you! Many days, afternoon showers cool the air down during the off-season with average precipitation ranging from 2.36 inches to 4.49 inches between June and August. Now, the water temperatures during the summer are nothing if not a benefit of the warmer climate – the water ranges from 84 to 86 degrees, and makes the shimmering waves and uncrowded beaches even more inviting on sunny days.

Rainy Season & Eastern Caribbean Hurricane Season: September, October, November

September, October, and November are the main off-season months in St. Barth, when many establishments choose to close their doors during the month of September and early October for a well-deserved fall break, dedicating their days to enjoying nature’s breathtaking natural phenomena… or embark on a vacation of their own! Historically the peak of hurricane season is the first 10 days of September, although technically it extends until November 30th.

Contrary to what you may expect, though, this aspect of our island climate doesn’t dampen our spirits. With average precipitation between 4.88 inches and 5.08 inches, the rainy season is what offers us our lush, tropical foliage and green landscape. And because the Caribbean calls for a glass half-full attitude, we choose to see it as the perfect opportunity to prepare for our upcoming busy season and the rest of the year ahead.

We invite you to join us at Rosewood Le Guanahani St Barth in spring 2021 to experience St. Barth’s world-renowned weather in person — because while there are plenty of ways to imagine it, there’s really nothing like feeling the Caribbean rays, cooling rain drops, and salty ocean breeze for yourself.
