Porto, Portugal – Where the Port Wine pours daily (Part 2)

Porto, Portugal – Where the Port Wine pours daily (Part 2)

Porto is a wonderful city to visit.  Everything about it says adventure.   The historical building leaving you in awe that they are still in such good condition after many years of weathering the climate changes and the people.

Now I’m going to take you across the Douro Bridge across the Dom Luis Bridge.

This area doesn’t have have many tourist flocking to it as the other side.  It has a different atmosphere to it which still lends to a great walk.   We just ventured along the river front.

Chestnuts

Along the river’s edge, there are vendors roasting chestnuts.   Of course, we had to try some.   They were quite good.  You can get 12 for $3euros.   Eat them same day.   By the next day, they are soft and mushy, then they get hard like little rocks.

Along the waterfront wall, there are touring boats to travel the river and see the views.   The boat are unique in their shape and colors.  We were told these are similar to boats that use to transport the wines to other regions. It would be fun to ride on one, but the weather was a little damp and cold for me.

Ferris Wheel

There was a large ferris wheel located at the far end.  I thought of Max, Keira and Mandy.   I had them ride a very small one in Baytown, Texas.  They didn’t like that ride.  I was imagining them screaming louder on this one.

Market area

Across the end of the street, we found a large market area.   Surprise when we entered.  It was divided into small vendor units. One vendor was selling fruits and vegetables.  Another was selling bake goods.  Then there were the about 20 vendors selling  prepared foods, similar to a small cafe.   Of course, you could buy wine and beer.

Next we stopped into a small wine shop.  There were did the Port Wine tasting.  For $5euros you were given 5 glasses to sample 5 types of the wine.   By the time we finished the tasting, I was all warm inside.  We did buy one bottle for $5euro to take with us

Before.

    after

Then as we were making our way back across the bridge, one more stop.

Ginja Wine

A young lady was selling shots of the Ginja wine.   I got mine in a chocolate shot glass.   The taste was similar to eating a chocolate covered cherry.  Happy holidays for only $1euro.

Back across the bridge and down to the busy tourist section.

The whole day was enjoyable.  Porto is one of those locations you wish the stay was longer.

Go to my Photo page.  There I posted more pictures of Porto for you to enjoy.

However, off we go again.  This time taking the train back to South Portugal heading to Faro.  This is beach area.

See you in Faro (Algarve area)
