Welcome Back to 60plusandfearless

Welcome back to my blog page.  Its been awhile since I wrote anything for your entertainment.

I’ve been visiting with my family for the last nine months in South Louisiana.   Spending time with children and grandchildren is always wonderful.   Attended birthday parties, graduation parties and sometimes” just because we can” parties.

I got to eat lots of boiled crawfish that I had been missing for a few years.  My son does a great job cooking these mud bugs.

We went over to Texas a few times to stay with our daughter and sightsee that area.   She is a die-hard Houston Astros fan.   In her house, she has turned one of the bedroom into an Astro fan room.  Its filled with Astros items, i.e. autographed baseballs, wallhangings, baseball hats, etc.   She loves her George Springer.   When she has the opportunity while watching the game, she keeps stats on the plays.  Her oldest son is an Astros fan as well.  He will call her during games to interact for more excitement.    It’s always a good time visiting with her.

Our stay in South Louisiana was a good visit.   We stayed with our youngest daughter and her children.   Although I know it helped out some with us being there to watch the kids, I’m sure they were glad to have their house back to themselves.

In July, we did take a family vacation up to North Carolina.

There were 11 of us on the trip.   We rented a large three story cabin on top of Hibbett Mountain.  The views from there was spectacular.   Food was good.  Being together all in one house was an adventure in itself.  It turned out to be a great time.

One of those days, we went to an area to find a Waterfall.   Little did we know when we asked for directions to this waterfall the drive would be up and down there the woods which seemed forever on a narrow, bumpy dirt road.

We reached the area to park the cars a few miles from the main road.

From that point we had to climb another 1 1/2+ miles up and down a wooded trail.  Some places on the trail were extremely narrow.  I was afraid someone might fall over the edge.  After walking for what seemed hours of climbing over fallen trees, crawling underneath broken branches and hopping over muddy streams of water, we made it to the waterfall site.

Reaching the waterfall

Of course, reaching the waterfall itself still required climbing and walking down another couple hundred feet on an old trail.

That was when I decided to just wait at the top of that trail and let all the young people venture down to the fall.   I was quite satisfied to sit there and listen to the water pouring off the side of the cliffs and hearing everyone below having fun in the cool, crisp water.

Then there was the walk back to the car up and down the same path we had ventured on to find this waterfall.    All in all, it took us about 2 hours of hitching to go to the waterfall and then return.  Everyone was tired, hot and thirsty by the time we got back to the cars.

Next day, some of us went white water rafting, others found another waterfall and some just drove through the mountain to view the surroundings.

In the evening, we would cook outside on the deck, look out at the beautiful area and enjoy handing out talking to each other.

The three days went rather quickly.   Packed up and started that long drive back to Louisiana.

We all stopped at Ruby Falls on the way back to Louisiana to get out the car for a while.  Everyone went on the 1200 ft  walking down in the cave to see that waterfall inside the cavern.

The cavern was cool and damp as to be expected.   It was quite refreshing compared to the last hitch in the hot woods a few days prior.

We made it back to Louisiana and were all happy that we had made this trip together.

It was a good family trip.

Rest of the time in Louisiana was driving around looking for new sites, going back to childhood places and preparing for our next adventure starting with Portugal.

We left Louisiana a few days ago to spend a few weeks back in Florida.   This was giving us time to finish up some issues and see a few friends here and off we go again.

I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my children and their kids. I will miss all of them a lot.  But its time to go discover new places and people.

Please Check out this site below –   It’s for my granddaughter who has a great opportunity to travel to Scotland and Ireland in the Spring, but she need some financial help to get there:
