Mr. Churros Serves Not Your Average Churro

Fun, innovative and creative. That’s definitely how we would describe the stall that we are about to feature in this article! If you’ve ever heard of the Churro bowl trend, you should note that before it boomed, Mr. Churros was the very first to release this product in the Philippines! A pioneer that hoped to offer something new.

Their Best Selling Matcha Bowl

This was put up by Marion Go and his partner, Cheena Lio. They started as a concessionaire in school fairs and eventually did so well, that they just had to put up their own stall and store. They have shown, time and time again, that they are unafraid of experimenting and oh so willing to continuously get creative. This is especially evident in their limited seasonal specials, which we’ll get to later.

Here’s a look at all the items that we got the chance to try out:

The Taste Test

Twin Milkshake

Can’t choose between two flavors? Well, you don’t have to anymore, because Mr. Churros imports cups that can hold both of your options! Not just that, but you won’t feel like your drink is cut in half because they still maintain a large serving size for both flavors. And guess what? They use ice cream as the base of their drinks. Yummy!

It is served with a classic churro on the side, which is both Marion’s and our favorite. He says that ”you can never go wrong with ordering a classic” and after trying their other flavors, we would have to agree.

The Twin Milkshake that we got to try out had Salted Caramel on one side and Coffee Almond Fudge on the other. Here’s what we thought of each.

Coffee Almond Fudge

Rating:

If you’re looking for the Starbucks Mocha Frappe alternative, this is the perfect drink to try out because it tastes just like it! This is minus the icy texture of course. The coffee after taste is nice and makes you want to keep sipping until there’s nothing left in the cup. We definitely enjoyed this drink.

Salted Caramel

Rating:

What we liked about this order was the alternating flavors of sweet and salty. It didn’t get boring, as it gave off a very curious taste. The reason why it’s rating is lower than that of the Coffee almond Fudge, is because we just really preferred the later.

Strawberry Churro Bowl

Rating:

The brands most sought out dish would have to be their famous churro bowls. You can get this in 3 flavors (Chocolate, Matcha and Strawberry) or build your own bowl.

We got the chance to try out the strawberry one and we think that it is something that Mr. Churros should be proud of. Honestly, at first glance, we found it to be small, but when we started to bite into it, we realized how good the serving size was! The churro bowl was fried perfectly and seemed very sturdy. It was able to hold a large scoop of ice cream without falling apart. It was topped with cheesecake, caramel and cereals, 3 things that we thought went so well with the overall taste. It also gave the dish a variety of textures, something to enjoy. The caramel made the treat pretty sweet, but we enjoyed eating this nonetheless. Heads up though, the ice cream melts fast and the dish is a bit messy to eat.

Churros Sampler

The Churros Sampler is definately an order to share. It comprises of 3 flavors, the cinnamon, oreo and white chocolate. Unfortunately, our favorite classic is not included in the set, but we do suggest that they might want to consider having it there too. In general, the nice thing about their churros is that it is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Here’s what we thought of each.

White Chocolate Coated Churro

Rating:

This flavor does not need a dip because it is pretty good on its own. We liked the texture of the churro as well as its sweet fruity taste. It definitely made us feel like we were little kids. The downside of this dish is that it could be too much for some people in terms of the sweetness.

Oreo Churro

Rating:

When we were told that this was one of their bazaar best sellers, we were not surprised as of course, it has oreos in it. When we actually tried it though, we were almost unable to taste the oreo flavor. It was very powdery and messy to eat. To enjoy this dish, we’d recommend that you try it with the 2 dips that they offer – Their white oreo dip which is made from the actual oreo filling or their dark chocolate dip.

Cinnamon Churro

Rating:

Similar to the oreo flavor, you’ll definitely need a tissue because of the sugar overload on the churros. It tasted a lot more like sugar than cinnamon which we hope that they can work on in the future.

In general, we found their churros to be thinner and more oily than the ones we’ve tried in other places. Their dips hardened in room temperature which we hope they can address in the future. We were happy to see that their containers were big, because it really helped catch all the falling powder and sugar. Although we’ve listed many points for improvement, we don’t think that this sampler defines their brand as we did get the chance to try other items that we loved.

‘Tis the Season to be Jolly

As we’ve mentioned earlier, Mr. Churros stays true to their creative identity by offering special dishes during different seasons throughout the year. They release a set of creative food items to match the feel of that time of the year and although we haven’t gotten the chance to try it out yet, we will be sure to. Christmas is fast approaching so we’re sure that they are getting ready to release their seasonal products!

In case you wanna try out their dishes, here’s a copy of their menu:
