Elait and Overdoughs: Providing Job Opportunities for the Deaf Community and Soon, Persons with Autism

Hooray! Guess what? We have good news for all of you today! Elait and Overdoughs just opened in Ayala Malls The 30th! This is not just great because more people can try out their well-loved artisanal food, but also because it means more work opportunities will be open for the Deaf Community, and soon, even persons with autism. We’ll talk more about this later, but for now, let us tell you about their store opening!

What took place at yesterdays event was a blessing of the new branches, the delivery of a few messages, a ribbon cutting ceremony and photo ops of different groups.

Apart from the owners and their relatives, as well as media partners and bloggers, the store was also graced with the presence of so many ice cream lovers who came all the way from various places just to check out the food and support the owners advocacy. The Caravan Group was even generous enough to provide everyone with finger food to eat and to hand out complimentary food stubs for both stores.

Orders were flying here and there for Elait and Overdoughs, because people just kept coming in. We stayed for a few hours and not once did we see the place empty! Definitely a huge congratulations to the owners for a successful opening!

Here’s a sneak peek of the yummy ice cream flavors that we got to try out from Elait – Salted Egg Surprise, Ube Flan, Chocolate Overload and All That Junk.

We also got to try everything from Overdoughs like their Locomades, Fried Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Fried Oreo Cookie Dough and Beignets.

Such yummy freebies! Apart from this, invited guests were also given little bags to take home which contained these adorable pins, gift certificates and more.

A huge thank you for all the wonderful treats!

Why the Deaf Community?

Since we wanted to understand the 2 brands even better than we did before, we set up an interview with the owner, Mr. Francis himself. We asked him why he choose to give focus on the Deaf community in particular. He responded by saying “I think that it’s unfair that just because they can’t hear, the opportunities they are given are so limited. When I researched about the common jobs that are given to the deaf community, it’s usually in production or anything at the back. Almost like they’re being hidden by the companies. I wanted to prove to everyone that the deaf can do it. That they can be the face of a company. Be in front of the customers and not behind the walls. And true enough, they really can.” During our interview, we saw his sincerity, belief in and love for the people he wants to help out.

Overdoughs to Employ Persons with Autism

Upon asking Mr. Francis about their future plans for Overdoughs, we were told that soon, they will be employing persons with Autism through Unilab’s Project Inclusion.

To give you a background of this project, it’s basically matching persons with disabilities to jobs that are best fitted for them based on their skill sets. It’s unique because it isn’t just the future employees that get trained, but even the employers. This is done to prepare both sides to work together in harmony.

Mr. Francis and his team have just finished interviewing possible employees and are now at the the final steps of the  Project Inclusion. We can’t wait to see more job opportunities for persons with Autism too!

Overall, we thought that their opening was very successful! They are helping so many people and really working to provide more job opportunities for people who have been undermined for so long. We really admire Mr. Francis and his team for all that they are doing!

Elait and Overdoughs – businesses with a heart. Thank you and again, congratulations!
