Airport Security – How To Get Through It Faster

Going on vacation is always exciting. You pack your bag and head to the Airport only to see that the Security line is FOREVER long. This always causes immediate fear.  Am I going to make it to my flight on time? What if I get help up even longer at security? No worries!  I’m going to tell you my tips and tricks to get you through Airport Security faster.

Liquids and Airport Security

Airport security allows you to have a 1-quart size bag filled with liquids and no liquid can contain more than 3.4 ounces.  I use the same clear cosmetic bag every time I fly.  I used to use one that wasn’t clear and it held me up a few times at security.  If you want something nicer than a Ziploc bag then use this one.  It is TSA approved and is more durable and nicer looking than a Ziploc bag.

Shoes

A lot of people forget to think about shoes when they get dressed for their flight.  The first time I flew I wore flip-flops which were fine for getting them on and off quickly but I was barefoot walking around airport security. EW! Now I always wear socks when I go through security and slide on shoes like this.  If it’s winter and freezing with a lot of snow then I will wear boots that I can just slide on and off and don’t have to tie.

Electronics

When you pack your carry-on, make sure you keep all of your electronics in an easy-to-reach place.  You will have to take anything larger than a cell phone out of your bag and put it in a separate tray.  I see people all of the time dig to the bottom of their carry-on to get their laptop and then they have to pack everything back in.  This takes FOREVER and they have to do it twice.  Once they get through airport security they have to shove the laptop back in.  If I’m traveling and need to take my computer then I use a laptop backpack like this as my personal item.  I can pack everything in the front pocket and slide my laptop in the back and it’s super easy to get to when I need to take it out.  It also had a nice strap so you can slide it onto your carry-on bag.

Forbidden Items

Please DO NOT take any weapons in your carry-on bag.  Airport security is strict when it comes to anything that can be used as a weapon.  You really need to think this through because a lot of people don’t realize they have something that security would qualify as a “weapon”.  I see a lot of females with pepper spray on their keychains. NOPE.  You can’t take that in your carry-on.  I also see the keychains that are sharp and used if you’re attacked and those also can’t go.  If you want to take something to protect yourself while traveling, be sure to put it in your checked luggage.

Clothing

Picking what to wear for your flight is super important.  You want to be comfortable and you don’t want to get cold on your flight.  These are things to think about when you get dressed but you also need to keep airport security in mind.  If you decide to wear layers, remember you will need to take off any jackets or thick outer layers.  If you can, throw your jacket or cardigan in your carry-on and pull it out once you’re past airport security.  Try and remember to wear pants that won’t need a belt because you’ll have to take that off as well.  The less metal on your clothes the better.
