Chicago Architecture Boat Tour on the Chicago River

CHICAGO Architecture Boat Tour ON THE Chicago RIVER

One of the most sought after tours in Chicago is the Chicago Architecture Boat tour that goes through the waterways of Chicago River. The tour brings spectacular views of the best architecture in Chicago. The architectural landmarks are historical; they tell stories about endurance.

In 1871 fire destroyed most of the Chicago buildings. The city you see today is a symbol of resilience. The city was rebuilt ambitiously. Some of the architects whose work you will see are Jeanne Gang, Mies Van Der Rohe, and Bertrand Goldberg.

There are three sections of the Chicago River that the Chicago architecture boat tour goes through. This showcases how architecture has changed over the years in Chicago. As you sail towards the north branch of the river you will see the Wolf Point.

One of the best places to find out more about Chicago’s architecture, including tours, is the Chicago Architecture Center. Also, The McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum has information about bridges over the Chicago River.

RIVERWALK CHICAGO: AFTER OR BEFORE CHICAGO RIVER CRUISE, STROLL DOWN CHICAGO RIVERFRONT TRAIL

RiverWalk Chicago is one of the most visited locations in Chicago. This path is over one mile long and it is beautifully sandwiched by magnificent architecture. There are more things to do on the RiverWalk Chicago mile other than viewing architecture. You will find restaurants, a market, shops, and a nice path you can take a stroll on while enjoying the views of Chicago River at close proximity.

There are boat rental shops where you can rent boats. You can also purchase tickets for boat cruise tours. Visit the McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum while on the RiverWalk mile. Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza is also a popular attraction on the RiverWalk.

Entrance to the RiverWalk is free and opening hours are from 6am to 11pm. You can enter the path from each major bridge that is within the mile length of the RiverWalk. Starting from DuSable Bridge, all the way to Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge.

WHERE TO BOARD THE CHICAGO RIVER CRUISE

There are a few good tours showcasing Chicago’s beautiful buildings. I took the Chicago architecture boat tour with the Shoreline Architecture River Cruise. For this particular tour, you can board from two locations. The first location is 401 N. Michigan Avenue—located opposite RiverWalk. The second location is Navy Pier at 124 N. Streeter Drive.

For those who want to visit a couple of attractions in Chicago, it might be best to buy a ticket that allows you to visit multiple attractions. Go City Chicago offers passes that would give you access to major attractions in Chicago,  at a reduced price—including the Architectural Boat Tour.
