Grand Lake Oklahoma: Best Resorts, Cabins, & Campgrounds


Grand Lake Oklahoma is the to go to vacation spot for most people in Oklahoma and residents of nearby states—especially Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, and Kansas. There are different towns that have state parks perfect for people seeking to stay on campgrounds near Grand Lake. Also, the resorts and cabins are nicely placed throughout the lakeshores and seem to have quiet atmospheres—making Grand Lake Oklahoma better suited for a relaxing beach getaway near home.

AFTON CITY & MONKEY ISLAND

One of the most sought after destinations on Grand Lake Oklahoma is Afton—especially Monkey Island. There, you will find resorts like Shangri-La and its golf course. Afton town itself has a few good restaurants that you can visit, such as The Road Hog, Doc’s Bar and Grill, and Quarterdeck Waterfront Restaurant.

Afton is also a Route 66 city which has a few motels, cafes, and other vintage looking attractions—National Rod & Custom Car Hall is a well-known museum. If you have not brought your boat, there are a few places where you can rent one—Shangri-La Marina and Sail Grand Waterfront are some boat renting places. 

SHANGRI-LA RESORT

Shangri-La Resort is a Grand Lake resort on Monkey Island in Afton, Oklahoma. The beauty and calmness of Grand Lake have over the years magnetically pulled the locals and Oklahoma state visitors to this majestic looking resort. People go to Shangri-La Oklahoma for golf, the fun poolside, and beautiful food. 

The hotel is 4-starred. In addition to the accommodation at the hotel, Shangri-La also offers cabins near the golf course. The real estate is grand here—probably the best all-round holiday destination at Grand Lake.  

CLUB WYNDHAM GRAND LAKE OKLAHOMA

Club Wyndham Grand Lake is a 3-star hotel made up of condos that are equipped with kitchenettes, fireplaces, a swimming pool, and a game room. Staff at the hotel are praised to be friendly and condos clean and tidy. The golf course is very close. You pay for Wi-Fi here.

THE RESERVE AT GRAND LAKE OKLAHOMA

The Reserve at Grand Lake is a resort community located on Monkey Island in the Afton area. This is a gated neighborhood that is very close to restaurants, Shangri-La, and most importantly Grand Lake. There are a lot of amenities, including a swimming pool. Some homes are rented out short term, while other people live there permanently.

WATERS EDGE RV & CABIN RESORT

The Water’s Edge RV & Cabin Resort is one of the RV campgrounds near Grand Lake Oklahoma. Located in Vinita, the campsite is clean and well kept. Pets are allowed and there is enough grass for them to play on. The views around the campground are beautiful. Each site has a deck and there is a boat dock. Restrooms are clean and there is a laundry place on site.

BERNICE TOWN 

The town of Bernice is one of the Grand Lake areas that is well known for its beautiful holiday homes on the lake and resorts. One of the well-known spots in Bernice is Bernice Area at Grand Lake State Park. This town is mainly a vacation hub, permanent residents of the area are not many. A good place to eat in Bernice is The Grill; more eating places are in Afton. For your boating needs in Bernice, there are boat dealers around, Indian Hills Marina is one of them. 

PINE LODGE RESORT

Pine Lodge Resort has log cabins that are rustic and equipped with kitchenettes. To ensure you are cozy—the cabins have fireplaces and hot tubs. The swimming pool is a bonus. The cabins offer a nice and quiet getaway and they are tidy. You also have access to a boat dock. The clubhouse is an extra space to relax and mingle with others. The owners of the resort are praised to be very friendly and helpful.

PARADISE COVE MARINE RESORT

Paradise Cove Marine Resort is a 3-Star resort on the shores of Grand Lake Oklahoma. The resort mostly has three-bedroom condos and homes with all useful amenities including free WiFi. With beautiful views of the Grand Lake, boating, and fishing activities, you will experience the best of Grand Lake. The boat fueling dock is open 24 hours. There is also a swimming pool and hot tubs at the resort.

SUNSET AT BERNICE POINT RESORT

Sunset at Bernice Point Resort is a 3 Star hotel in Bernice that sits right on the shores of Grand Lake Oklahoma. They have clean rooms here with a small fridge, microwave, and a television. People can also camp. Boat tournaments take place at the resort and people can fish here, there is a covered fish cleaning station. The owners of the resort receive so much praise for being nice and helpful.

BERNICE AREA AT GRAND LAKE STATE PARK

Bernice Area at Grand Lake State Park is a small park when compared with other parks around Grand Lake Oklahoma, but it is large enough for big group gatherings and also perfect for kids.

The park is a nice free entry area that is peaceful and has a nature trail. This part of Bernice is good for watching birds—observation towers are placed at the park. More information can be obtained from the visitor’s center. There is also a campground host to assist campers with information and other needs. 

On the negative side, according to some TripAdvisor reviews, some people have experienced noises coming from the nearby road—the park is near the main road.

GROVE CITY 

Grove is another hotspot for vacationing on Grand Lake Oklahoma. Away from the water edges, the locals live here and conduct their day to day activities. Restaurants in Grove include The Lazy Parrot, Chickanellas, Lupe’s Mexican Restaurant, and La Casita De Martin.

The buzz of water life is highly visible as you approach Grand Lake—beautiful private holiday homes, as well as a few rental accommodations. In Grove, you will find Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees where fishing tournaments are held. 

Har-Ber Village Museum is the go-to place. To see the museum, you take a self-guided tour through the village learning about the history of Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas, from the 1800s to the 1900s. There is a 2-mile nature trail for walking.

People also enjoy botanical gardens at Lendonwood Gardens on Har-Ber Road near the main street. Equally popular is the Grand Lake Casino also located in Grove. 

LEE’S GRAND LAKE RESORT

Lee’s Grand Lake Resort offers lakeside cabins that have barbeque grills—perfect for a summer outdoor fun on Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees. You will find a swimming pool and a marina for your boat activities. The resort also offers RV parking and boat slips. The cabins are equipped with full kitchens. The resort offers free WiFi and cable TV, among other things.

CANDLEWYCK COVE RESORT GRAND LAKE OKLAHOMA

At Candlewyck Cove Resort Grand Lake, you will find nice cabins and houses. Hot tubs as a bonus. A quiet resort perfect for a relaxing getaway. Nice view of the lake and boats—you can rent a boat here. There is a swimming pool, fire pit, volleyball, and fishing. Local restaurants are nearby.

PINE ISLAND RV RESORT

Pine Island RV Resort is an RV parking and camping ground. There are views of Grand Lake from the camp and deers are roaming around freely. The resort has a swimming pool. Camper cabins are available by reservation. Hikers are well looked after—there is a 2-mile trail from here. Other activities include fishing, boating, and para-sailing.

DREAM CATCHER RESORTS 

Dream Catcher Resorts has two properties—The Grand Property located at 1288 Hendryx Point Road in Eucha, and The Point Property at 809 Ackerman Road, also in Eucha.

Both properties are close to the famous Pensacola Dam and beautifully stand on the shores of Grand Lake surrounded by botanical gardens. The resorts have hot tubs, boating activities, heated fishing docks, swimming dock, water trampoline, and other water toys. WiFi is free and the accommodations have full kitchens. 

DISNEY TOWN

Disney Town, also known as Disney Island, is located on the southern side of Grand Lake ‘O’ the Cherokees. Disney is known for its deers that stroll around the island. If you are looking for things to do, the best restaurants in Disney include Mooney’s Sunset Bar & Grill and Pistol Pats. Pensacola Dam is located between the nearby towns of Langley and Disney.

DISNEY AREA AT GRAND LAKE STATE PARK

Disney Area at Grand Lake State Park has a Grand Lake campground that sits near Pensacola Dam on Disney Island. The Park is good for people looking for some quietness at the lake—it is found on the off-road area—and those eager to fish and walk in the long trails. When the floodgates of Pensacola Dam are open, the view is perfect for those at the campground. Rock climbing is also a thing in this area. With regards to swimming in the Grand Lake, families with kids find this place ideal because of the shallow waters.

LITTLE BLUE PARK

Little Blue Park is a Disney park that is known for its adventurous swimming in the Little Blue Hole—the water is clean but cold. The Park is a Grand Lake campground that is loved by families with kids because of the swimming, picnicking, and walking. On holiday weekends, there might be a lot of people camping here—it seems it is no longer a kept secret.  

Fishing for bass and other water activities are common here. Pensacola dam spillway is very close and there are so many opportunities to climb rocks and equally enough walking and hiking trails.

For people looking for camping grounds near Grand Lake Oklahoma, Little Blue Park is the perfect place for primitive camping. The scenic campground has so much to offer. The park is open 24 hours but their office is open between normal office hours. Contact their office to book a campsite.

DISNEY ROCK CABINS

Disney Rock Cabins are pretty looking log cabins in Disney. Here, they have seven cabins with kitchenettes and the place is pet friendly. There are trails from the back of the cabins and a Pensacola dam spillway is close by. The owners of the cabins are praised to be friendly and helpful. The cabins are simple but clean, with linen and towels readily available.

CHEROKEE AREA AT GRAND LAKE STATE PARK

Cherokee Area at Grand Lake State Park is a well-known park in the Disney area that you can fish and camp. Pensacola Dam is located near this park which has campgrounds near Grand Lake Oklahoma—about three waterfront RV sites with different hosts—and a golf course. Wild animals such as groundhogs and deers do present a nice view to see. People also love bird watching different types of birds. For campers, there is a nearby store where you can buy groceries.
