If you’re visiting the US on Business and have an extended stay NYC on your itinerary then you’re going to have plenty of time to fill. Even if you have meetings scheduled each and every day you’re there, you’ve still got the night to fill. New York is the ‘city that never sleeps’ after all!
Luckily it doesn’t sleep for a very good reason; there’s is just so much to do. Here’s a few examples of some of the best things to do during the downtime on your business trip.
1. Go to a bar
Yep, this is as simple as it sounds. Visit a bar and have a good time New York style!
However, if you’re trying to find a typical New York City bar then this is something you might find more difficult. There are so many unique and interesting places to wind down in the evening that typical doesn’t really exist in this city.
If you’re looking for bubbles or a cocktail then New York has some very upmarket places. Flute serves high end champagne and is in situated on the very spot where a speakeasy was located in Prohibition time!
For cocktails you’re spoilt for choice with plenty of NYC bars claiming to make the best. If you’re a beer fan check out the micro brewery bars where you can always try out a range of interesting beverages.
2. Go to a restaurant
You may be on a business trip but you still need to eat, so why not do it in style? There are plenty of acclaimed New York eateries and some of them serve food until the early hours of the morning, perfect if your meeting has dragged on a bit!
The Spotted Pig is one not to be missed. It’s a gastropub where you can’t reserve a table and it’s open until 2am. Unusually it’s also Michelin-starred and full of celebrities!
Fancy sushi in the early hours of the morning (probably better for you at that time anyway)? Sushi Seki is open until 2:30am with its renowned Japanese menu.
3. Find a tall building
Not hard when you’re in the city that practically invented the high rise city skyline. Skyscrapers are two a penny and the chances are you’re probably working in one during your stay. However what is the tallest building and can you visit it?
One World Trade Centre
This is the tallest building in New York City standing at a colossal 1,776 feet (the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776). Built in the footprint of the WTC North Tower, the ‘Freedom Tower’ is also a memorial to the World Trade Centre and to those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
You can visit the observation deck situated on floors 100 to 102. At a height of 1,250 feet it’s the highest viewing platform in the city.
4. Visit some attractions
There is so much to see in New York City you must ensure that any short term furnished rentals NYC you are considering are in amongst the best attractions. After a day of work and play you’re going to need somewhere close by to rest your head!
Trying to list all the attractions is impossible, here are some of the more obvious ones in case you’ve forgotten.
Statue of Liberty
The symbol of freedom that was a welcoming sign to the immigrants that made the US.
Empire State Building
The iconic symbol of New York City, simple as that.
Grand Central Terminal
If you’re from London you’ll wonder what the attraction is of a busy railway station? Visit and you’ll know.
Central Park
Eight hundred and forty three acres of concerts, flora and fauna and even ice skating when the weather’s right.
5. Go shopping
You either love shopping or you hate it. If you love it, New York City is a little bit of heaven, if you hate it, this city might just have something to make you change your mind.
If you want iconic, go to Fifth Avenue. If you like do do all of your shopping in one place, try Macy’s, the largest department store in the US. If you like your purchases to be unique, head to Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, it’s vintage heaven.
If you prefer to find a bargain than shop high end then don’t worry, you have plenty of choices too. Try Century 21 where you can find designer labels at massive discounts or even Brooklyn Flea Market, which is consistently full of some of the best bargains around.
