Abhideyaka Abhishekam

Abhideyaka Abhishekam:

This Annual Seva in Tirumala is performed in Jyestha Masam (month of June) and hence it is also called Jyestabhishekam.

Significance:

Abhideyakam means the armor which cannot be destructed. As the special holy bath (abhishekham) is conducted to the armor, this is special utsavam is named as Abhideyaka Abhishekham.

As per Vishnu Purana, Lord Venkateswara has been born to eradicate the evil in Kaliyuga. Due to the fight against the bad, the protective shield gets depleted. To restore the power of the Armor of the God, a special type of Tirumanjanam (Holy bath) is performed every year to the deities of Lord Malayappa Swami and his wives Sridevi and Bhudevi.

According to the temple legends, this festival is conducted once in every year to protect the Utsava deities from the damage that might have occurred during conducting the many rituals including Abhishekham throughout the year.

This annual seva is celebrated for three days. On each day Lord Malayappa Swami is adorned with different attires.

On the first day – Vajra Kavacham- It is armour studded with diamonds. It is believed that this kavacham brings good and fortune and helps to eradicate the fear.

On the second day- Muthyala Kavacham- This armor is studded with pearls. It is believed that, this Kavacham protects the loved ones while establishing a bond between them.

On the third day- Swarna Kavacham- Its is also called the armor of gold. This Kavacham remains adorned to the lord throughout the year and removed only on this special occasion the next year. The whole festival will be completed by the time of Jyesta Nakshatram.

Lord Malayappa Swami along with Sridevi and Bhudevi are brought to Kalyanotsava Mandapam which is located opposite to the main temple in Sampangi Prakaram and Snapana Tirumanjanam is performed which is followed by vedic chants. This bath includes holy water brought from different rivers and is mixed with turmeric, sandal, honey, milk and curd.

Annual sevas booking:

This festival is conducted in the morning at 7.00 AM in the month of June. Advance booking is recommended as the rush will more during this season.

The annual sevas tickets cost is Rs 400/- per head for one day. Two small Laddus along with one Vada are issued while entering the complex. After the ritual, depending on the gender, a silk cloth upper or a blouse piece is given.
