Maldives Reopening Guideline

Maldives has announced borders reopening on 15 July 2020.

What you need to know

– No quarantine on arrival, i.e no minimum stay is required.
– Free 30-day visas on arrival
– Temperature checks and screening measures will be carried out at the first point of entry for tourists and special attention will be paid to individuals exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms including, but not limited to, cough, runny nose or shortness of breath. Those exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms on arrival must undergo a PCR test.
– Wearing a mask at airports is mandatory.
– All arrival and departure passengers should complete the online Health Declaration forms before arrival

The 1/3 of all Island resorts in the Maldives is set to reopen by 15 July when borders of the country reopen according to the reopening guideline of the Ministry of Tourism.

All local islands will be opened for guests from 1 August 2020.

All liveaboards and private yachts will start to operate on 15 July 2020

Airlines resumed

According to the schedule published by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), 12 airlines have expressed interest in operating to the Maldives.

– From 15 July 2020, Qatar Airways, will be traveling from Doha.
– From 16 July 2020, Emirates, five flights per week.
– From 18 July 2020, Etihad Airways, two flights per week.
– From August 2020, Gulf Air, British Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Silk Air, Indigo, Singapore Airlines, and Sri Lankan.

The schedule is subject to change.

Safety standards for reopening

Resort safety standards for reopening.

– Resorts will designate areas for isolation of the guest if and when required.
– Resorts will allocate facilities and make arrangements for staff to self-isolate when necessary as instructed by HPA
– Guest service staff will be trained in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), trained on social distancing procedures, trained on
disinfection procedures, wear face masks in enclosed public spaces and during circumstances where social distancing is not possible
– Resort will have resident medical officers on site who have undergone HPA certified training on COVID-19 management, isolation procedures and sampling
– A safe distance of at least 1 meter will be maintained between tourists and staff at all times.
– Food and beverage services will be served at tourist facilities with safety measures as set forth by HPA to prevent transmission of COVID-19.
– Frequently contacted surfaces will be disinfected regularly.

Liveaboard safety standards for restarting

– The vessels will not be allowed to call into any other harbor besides designated ones until further notice
– The vessel will be disinfected as per HPA guidelines after the departure of guests and before new guests can be accepted onboard
– Crew will wear masks when in direct contact with tourists in enclosed spaces

Guesthouse safety standards for reopening

– The resident doctor on an island will have undergone HPA certified training on COVID-19 management, isolation procedures and sampling before the guest houses in the jurisdiction may reopen.
– The guesthouse will provide for isolation of the guest in the guest’s resident room as per standards set forth by HPA.
– Tourists traveling to local islands must maintain social distancing

General safety standards for reopening

– The entry procedures and restrictions applied to resorts and vessels in lodging tourists as set forth by this guideline will be eased on September 1, 2020 unless extended by the Government. As per guest houses – no information yet.
– This guideline will be reviewed every 14 days
– Tourists shall be restricted from partaking in activities such as diving or excursions if they are symptomatic even if they have tested negative for COVID-19. They will only be allowed to partake in diving after symptoms have cleared fully.
