Winestone at Mercure on Stevens

Located conveniently next to the Novotel and Mercure Hotel on Stevens, Winestone is a quality restaurant experience certainly not to be missed. Not too far from the Orchard area and with public transportation relatively close, it is easy and convenient to get to.  Walking in, we felt like we are in a fine dining restaurant but we are made to feel right at home thanks to the front door and waiting staff. Winestone is a modern European restaurant with a huge bar and quality wine and drink list to choose from.

As we sit down with our water, our Bread Starters came out and found out they are called Docca. It is an Egyptian bread mixed with balsamic vinegar and spices and tasted so dam good we want to keep eating this as our whole meal. They are complimentary but try not to eat all of them in a hurry. We asked for some recommendations from the staff and were given a few dishes to try during our meal. So we put our fate in their hands and they certainly delivered.

The Winestone At The Mercure Hotel Dining Experience

One of our starters is the Citrus Norwegian Scampi ($SG24), which is a great way to start the meal. A salad dish, loaded with seafood goodies is a great choice for 2 to 3 persons. As we are enjoying the delicious Scampi, the Fresh Squid ($SG20) comes out as well. With a light sauce, the squid is uncut, so you can chop up the pieces anyway you see fit. And it soooooo fresh with it still tasting like the sea :-)Probably the favourite of the seafood dishes, the Hokkaido Scallops ($SG32) is an absolute pleasure to eat. 3 of them come out and they are so well plated. The garnish mixes well and they are actually big as well so each person can have one and that is enough.

When we move to the mains we are going meat, a slight pivot from our seafood starters. We are not feeling it for pasta so we go for the meat option of Beef tenderloin 250g ($SG87) This comes all cut up so it is easy to share for a great. We ordered a medium cook and it came out perfectly. The meat was nice and lean so there was not too much fat on it, just the way I like it. The steak sauce that came with it was also great, if not a tad small.

Another recommended dish is the Winestone Wagyu Burger ($SG27) One of the best ways to get to know a place by their burgers, and this one was no exception.  We shared the burger, and even though the meat was super thick (perfect for me, not so much for Thuymi) it was cooked medium-well and was exceptionally juicy.

As we are currently on a fairly strict diet, we did not try the desserts, but the table next to us ordered some and there were smiles all around. Dam, I wish I wasn’t eating healthy right now.

Winestone Drinks Menu

Thuymi decided to have one little Cocktail before we left and she chose “The Fish Sipper” ($SG20) This is a concoction of whiskey and aged rum with Campari, served with orange peel and fish skin It is a strong taste, and even though we don’t usually have rum, they found a way to make it work. Not to mention we totally love Campari, so it makes the drink super good. Did we mention how the drink is presented? They have dried ice and it is a smoking cup!

Truth be told, we may have already come here on the only day of the week they closed haha. So we were determined to give it another go and try out their menu. Even though the drop off location is at the hotel, they are not directly affiliated, making them a reasonably priced, but high-quality eating destination. Winestone is perfect for either a romantic date night or a company lunch.

Goodbye!
