A day with Montreal Canadiens’ farm team: The Laval Rocket (AHL)

Do you like to watch professional sport? May it be NHL, NFL, NBA, and so on, what ticks your clock? If we had the opportunity to go to events to meet our favorite players and idols, chances are that we will go. The industry has been great for their fans by organizing social events enabling fans to meet their idols. This is a day in the AHL.

We Habs fan all remember these days, the Hamilton Bulldogs. The Montreal Canadiens Farm team that was a tad too far for any major Habs fan that was interested in the youths’ growth to go attend a few games.

The team was in another province for a start. Not just in Ottawa though, way over 2 hours drive to get there. Would you even go though if it was 2 hours drive? Doubly if you were not going there because you have a kid playing, going for work because you are a journalist or something.

So it happened. Montreal Canadiens crossed a big “X” on the past and now has the Laval Rocket. A genius name, based on our almighty Maurice “Rocket” Richard. The new stadium that is in Laval is name the Place Bell and is filled with giant photos of the Rocket. Just the way it should inspire the young fellas in the AHL team to work their butt off to reach the NHL and the Montreal Canadiens. Motivation is key and this new facility is what the team needed to inspire the new folks to work hard.

In February 18th was the Fans day, also an occasion for the Rocket’s administration to invite some partners and sponsors to come along and meet up some players. People could mingle, take photos, get their jersey autographed and all sorts. We tagged along with the sponsors team to be able to have a peak at this fan appreciation day.

These events are so important for any sports organization. If you are a professional sporting team and you don’t do this, it’s simple bad PR. You need to be able to meet your fans, the people that attend your games, buy the products of your advertisers, in a nutshell, they are part of your salary, dear player.

Even though it was the farm team and only AHL, the little fans were buzzing. Everyone wanted a piece of the players for photos and autographs. All these little souls, looking up to these guys and wishing to be at least their level one day; it was wonderful to witness.

Leaving you with a few pictures of that day and looking forward to our next sporting event!

Au revoir!
